Support for moving within Finland
Support for moving within Finland
Hello all and thank you for this great forum.
We currently living up north and planning to move to Helsinki where would offer a better chance to look for jobs.
My question is, can we get any support for moving, like hiring a van, ticket, traffic expenses... and from where can we put our application: Employment Office or Toimeentulotuki ?
(We out of school for 3 months and have been with Toimeentulotuki for 2 months).
Thank you very much and looking for your advice

Why someone would need to support you when you are moving ?

The employment office. I couldn't find this in English, but here's what they say in Finnish:
Though it's only available if you've already got the job. "I'm moving to find a job" isn't enough. (There's a separate grant, also described at the MOL site, if you need to go to a job interview.)
http://www.mol.fi/mol/fi/90_tyonhakuinf ... /index.jspMuuttokustannusten korvausta

Thank you very much for your post Jahasjahas. It seems this is not my case.jahasjahas wrote:The employment office. I couldn't find this in English, but here's what they say in Finnish:

May be someone with real experience could advise. I know this does exist so did I ask.

Thank you FloydFin. This case is so clear but my case is not. And thanks for the tip, moving company is one option for us. Cheers!FloydFin wrote:I know a person who was unemployed in Oulu, he applied to study at a polytechnic in Helsinki and was accepted. He informed the employment office and they approved footing the bill for the moving expenses. He hired a moving company and transported all his furniture.

You get the Työvoimatoimisto to pay with "proof" as everything else, so after the fact... hope/wish/intend doesn't count. Toimeentulotuki might help but the main problem is also the "receiving end" doesn't want to pay benefits so they try their best to deny you.
