British GP's

Post by eggonlegs » Sun Jun 30, 2013 12:05 pm

Does any know or is anyone a UK trained GP working in Finland? I'm not looking for a consultation but rather some careers advice:) I know EU qualifications are valid but would love to hear from anyone who is practising here, particularly how much Finnish they knew before getting a post. Thanks

I think you need to be pretty fluent. In Espoo where I live many (most?) of the doctors working in the public healthcare system are foreign but they are Estonian, maybe Russian etc and they all speak Finnish.
Not sure about the private sector though, but I don't see why it would be any different.

I have never met, or heard of, a British GP working in Finland. But I think there is a British dentist working somewhere in Helsinki (in a private clinic). There was a post on this forum a few months ago about him.
