Hello Everyone,
Is there possible to pick up two hitchhikers from Helsinki to Oulu end of August in 2013?
I heard that hitchhiking in Finland is safe for girls.
Your advice is welcome.
Thank you in advance.

No sane person would expect hitchhiking to be as safe as a plane or train.amandamum wrote:I heard that hitchhiking in Finland is safe for girls.
But if you don't mind hitchhiking in other countries, then you shouldn't worry about it in Finland - in general Finland is one of the safest countries in the world.

Re: Hitchhiker
If you are hitchiking, I gather it will be from motorways?
I don't think anyone is going to stop on a 120km / hr motorway to pick you up. Only people who would are probably the police and well, that won't be fun.
I don't think it's unsafe to hitchike here. Killings and raping and whatnot aren't that common here.
I often see them at the beginning of the Tampere Motorway, but I don't stop to pick anyone up. It's insane where KEHÄ 3 crosses with the motorway and all the road works constantly going on there.

Re: Hitchhiker
It's probably as safe for the hitcher as it is for the driver. Last time I offered a lift the person turned out to be worryingly mental. After about 50 nervous kilometers I managed to leave them at a train station. I don't pick up unknown or unplanned hitchhikers any more...
