Re: Student jobs
Well, if you are referring to those "summer jobs" for students they are not hard at all to find for what I have seen, but it's only for a few months of course and they are not really top-scale.. kind of seasonal "fillers"....imbasit995 wrote:is it really hard to find one? and how much does a student job usually pay?
Rinso I am amazed .. your optimism and "honesty" are under-whelming....Rinso wrote:"really hard" is too optimistic.
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
― Winston Churchill
Only thing missing is the trite, hackneyed never-ending mantra .. of flipping burgers ... and washing toilets ..... but I am confident someone will come up pretty soon to shovel some more negativity as usual.
As a matter of facts restaurants, hotels and bar tending are typical student's summer jobs .. but there are also clerical summer internships at companies, but for those the "application period" is usually a bit earlier kind of May/ June depending on the companies, to start in summer and last till the end of September, (sometimes more).

And never forget to try ... if you don't try .. you'll never know.

Re: Student jobs
Oh well.. that depends essentially on the position of course.imbasit995 wrote:hmm any idea how much they pay?
If you are looking for a "summer job" like gardening, hotel work or bar tending or something like that it might be in the region of 10-15 euros per hour...
which might make you around 1000-1500 EUR in a month if you do let's say 25 hours a week x 4 week... more or less.
A summer internship as a "financial analyst" at an investment bank on the other side usually lands something like 2500 EUR per month... more or less.
Just as an example.

not bad, just the problem of finding these jobs in a student city..David Junior wrote:Oh well.. that depends essentially on the position of course.imbasit995 wrote:hmm any idea how much they pay?

Well.... you are A FISH in the sea ... just as any other... beware of sharks...
and try not to be put-off by those who spread negativity as "a way of life" ...
I know sometimes it's hard to ignore those kind of people, especially if you are a newcomer ...
but it is very important, I'd say "vital" to do it.... keep your focus .. and go ahead.

This is the truth.rinso wrote:"really hard" is too optimistic.
Even if you manage to get an interview, remember that many companies would rather hire a Finn even if the working language is English.
I interviewed for jobs where all communication would be with native English speakers, but still not hired.
Thankfully I did find a job after 18 months of looking.

The problem is that all you are offering here is blabla without any usable contents.David Junior wrote:imbasit995 wrote:

Please, give the OP specific instructions on where exactly in Vaasa he (who speaks neither Finnish nor Swedish) can find a student job.
And more specific than "ask all restaurants", since thousands of students have already done the same.
Or admit that his chances of finding any student job in Vaasa are very low.
Re: Student jobs
Have to agree with Ardian42. Summer jobs for students is hard to find, and specially if you are a student who doesn't speak local lingo then changes become pretty slim.
Now in these days, there are many from South Euro area who are ready to do these jobs as full time as you may have heard about the financial crisis in those countries. So you are going to face tough competition.
Finnish students start to hunt for summer jobs from February (or even earlier).

and that "financial analyst" at an investment bank requires Finnish language.David Junior wrote:

Q.E.D. for the fact that you are not able to provide any actual help to the OP for finding a job.
Instead you are just spreading nonsense, like telling people unrealistic high salaries for student jobs.
BTW, how is your job search going?
As an expert in job search and with the huge positivity you have, I am sure you already found a job with a salary much higher than what you claimed would be normal for a student job...

Re: Student jobs
Your best bet is to be social and active like hell and try to make as much contacts as you can and hope you get to know someone who knows someone. And also to make plans in case you don´t find any job, a plan B.

You make the business of self-fulfilling prophesies look so easy, but I'll bet one actually has to work at it.David Junior wrote:but I am confident someone will come up pretty soon to shovel some more negativity as usual.
As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
