Also if your marriage certificate was in english, did you need to get it translated?
Legalizing a marriage in Finland - Experiences?
Re: Legalizing a marriage in Finland - Experiences?
From the time the paper (in English, or possibly English translation together with the original in a more exotic language) with the required stamps submitted in Finnish embassy in the Far East it took probably about 1.5 weeks for the Finnish population database to have the information, in any case less than three weeks. This was about five years ago.

Alright, not too bad! Yeah, me and the hubby got married in Canada and now we're trying to get our marriage legalized in Finland before he files for his RP. I know it takes about 15 business days for Canadian Foreign Affairs to get our marriage certificate authenticated, but it's nice to know the Finnish embassy might not waste too much time forwarding the papers to the local magistrate.

Try and go to maistraatti webpages, you will find guidance there how to register a marriage to be legal in Finland. Dont think it takes long.
