Wedding in Helsinki. Translation and tips

Post by Kendalmintcake » Wed Jul 10, 2013 4:04 pm

Good afternoon, I have the pleasure of best man duties at a wedding this weekend, I would like as part of my speech to say in finnish to the bridge "today your beauty cannot be measured or matched" google translation is "tänään kauneutesi ei voida mitata tai sovitettu" is this correct and HOW ON EARTH do I say that? (The google translator says it so fasssssssst I have no hope of picking it up, adding full stops slows it down BUT also changes it) Or open to suggestions as to a suitable quote to make to the bride that a none skilled linguist could say.
Finally any specific do's and do not's to be aware of at a finnish wedding.
Many thanks for the help

Back from wedding Helsinki.
skipped the local language part of speech on advice from the brides family who said translation on line was not great and (nice way to say RUBBISH!) keep to English as after the traditional toasts and drinking finnish would be impossible!
Lots of spontaneous speeches from guests (mainly the ladies) and singing too, a great experience.

Oh, I read this thread on my phone and planned to reply later, but I forgot. Sorry. I'm glad you didn't use the online translation, it was indeed rubbish

It sounded something like "today measurements cannot be made your beauty or not fitted" (errors intentional)

I don't think the bridge would have minded.
