always get guidance...another query

Post by xyzxyz » Sat Jul 20, 2013 6:21 pm

Hi every body,
First i want to appreciate all members who always guide me in different situations, much knowledge and information i got from this forum. Today i have another question. In my last post i came to know that suddenly if a person (student)got serious disease then insurance company will pay all up to one year as insurance is of one year. After one year what should student do for his treatment (disease is going on like diabetes or kidney)as he has to complete his studies in Finland for 4 years. I mean he should contact to Finnish insurance companies ? These companies will give insurance to that student for going on treatment ?so that he can continue his studies in Finland or student has to go back his home country and discontinue his studies.Or Is there any NGO who can support such type of student?
Thanx in advance,

Best Regards,

There are not really private insurances in Finland.

When someone got a permanent job in Finland, he is covered by the public healthcare system (but foreign students are not).

Why are you so interested in that question?

It is extremely unlikely that an 18 years old student would suddenly get serious diabetes or kidney problems that weren't already present before.
And if you already have such a problem and attempt to sell that as "new" problem to the insurance when you are in Finland - forget it, this kind of fraud is usually easily detected.

And when you are healthy enough to continue your studies it is not even that bad.
If you break your neck when doing something stupid after drinking alcohol you might be in a much worse state than someone who has diabetes or kidney problems.

If you are seriously worried about getting any health problems in Finland, simply never drinking alcohol during your studies in Finland should be enough to avoid the worst health issues.

Diabetes not only requires medication but also monitoring equipment and without coverage, all this can be quite expensive every month. You can still get insurance but naturally with a higher premium and no medicine coverage.
My point is that a healthy student who didn't have diabetes before usually won't suddenly get diabetes during his first year of studies in Finland.

Chances are that's either a non-issue or a (usually failing) attempt to make an insurance pay for a diabetes that was already present before coming for Finland.

The terms of your current insurance should be stated in a language you can understand in the documentation you have already received from your company. There is neither need or possibility for us to accurately guess them for you.

It should be obvious that no new insurance company will offer you coverage for per-existing condition. They are not charities, but corporations aiming at profit. Therefore, they will take a customer that is guaranteed to generate them a loss.

Actually he is my friend 34 years old applying for master in Finland. I ask him the disease name, its very strange disease like sugar i think. He was having SLE systemic lupus erythematosus disease few years back but as doctor said that it suppress for few years the can appear again. That is why i am asking all detail for him. If it again arise, there should be some planning or precausions to control it.

Then you should study carefully the small print in the insurance companies' policies. There may be differences in, among other things, when is a recurring condition a per-existing one (not-covered).
