When can my wife come to Finland?

Post by uhri85 » Fri Aug 02, 2013 11:08 pm

Hello there!

I am a non-EU student living in Finland since 2007. Throughout these years I have lived in B permit, worked part-time all the time and full time during summer and finished a Bachelor's Degree in 2010 (sosionomi) and now soon going to finish a Master's degree from Helsinki University. I'm now planning to stay and work in Finland for two years and then go back to my country.

The thing is I have got a full-time job offer in a Finnish foundation and after taxes my monthly salary will be around €2100. I'll start the job by the first week of October. Here are my questions:

- As far as I know, I can start the job and then apply for my A visa, right? Or do I need to apply first and get A permit and then start working?
- Since my income is sufficient to support my wife too, I would love to bring her here as well. But can my wife also apply for residence permit on family ties along with me or should I get my A permit first and then ask her to apply?
- I am most likely to get a permanent contract (they are deciding in a meeting soon), but even if my contract is temporary, will it affect my wife's application?

Note: my wife's tourist visa was rejected saying that she doesn't intend to leave Finland at the end of her stay (obviously, because I was here and they thought we were planning to apply for dependent permit IN Finland, and to be honest that was the case.)

First residence permit then work.

Your wifes permit will be linked to yours. So if your permit will expire soon, hers will too.

You need a contract for at least 2 years. For a shorter period they might reject your application.

New job = new situation. It shouldn't be a problem.

Wrong, as long as he starts the job while his current Residence Permit is still valid he can just start working and continue working while his work Residence Permit is being processed even when his current Residence Permit expires.

Wrong, it will only affect the duration of his wife's Residence Permit.

The main question is whether my wife and I can apply for A visa simultaneously/at the same time. I have checked migri and they have mentioned that if I haved got education from Finland, I can start working as soon as I find one. So don't need to get A visa first and start working! I know people who got A visa for three months because their contract was for three months. So I am sure my application won't be affected by a permanent contract, I am concerned if my wife's application will be. Anyone having experience on family ties permit on the basis of well-paid but temporary work permits?

The spouses RP depends on the "original" RP. So basically, if you get a 6 month contract, and a permit for 6 months, and apply for a spouse RP, and it takes 5 months and 29 days to process, she has one day RP...

Ask Migri.

They can give you better advice than some random people on the internet.
