I'd be more worried she drives like a granny - in the winter 8)
I really am a terrible driver all year round. :|
You'd be coming from a state with highly cooperative drivers to a country with very competitive drivers and with rules and traffic configurations that would be quite an adjustment.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

That is what I would do if I lived in Helsinki. Plus bike of course. But I would still bring the car, you can probably make profit with it. On the other hand "storing" it in Helsinki...

She won't need to 'store' it anywhere if she buys an 800,000€ home LOL. Because it's for sure there's at least 3 parking garages LOL. Joke!

If I'm not buying a home in Munkkiniemi anymore, I'm probably not going to spend 800k on a home now. Probably 500k or less since I can't find any actual homes in Munkkiniemi, they are all apartments and they are just for rent, not purchase...

Etuovi.com finds 23 properties for sale in Munkkiniemi. At least one of them is a single-family detached home.

Anybody else doubt the wisdom of jumping into homeownership in a highly regulated country where you don't speak the language? Sometimes it's hard enough just renting.

No idea. I can't access the website to see for myself. Last time I did check properties for sale they weren't what I was looking for.

They do appear to have some sort of a problem on their server right now – I can’t access the site either. It was still up and running when I posted the text quoted above, though.

(I guess the problem will clear up in about 10 hours at the latest. As of this writing, it’s Sunday, and almost midnight.)

I believe I looked at that site earlier when I was more concerned about availability in Munkkiniemi but, like I said, most were just apartments and townhouses for rent. Some may have been for sale. A lot that I looked at had conflicting information saying it was for sale but also saying it was only available for rent. One that I thought was a detached home was a townhouse. So I'm really looking at detached homes outside the city in Vantaa or Espoo. I'm just really set on having a detached home anywhere in Helsinki now. I'm not hurting too bad that I can't have what I want in Munkkiniemi.
