Citizenship

Post by Rakel » Tue Aug 13, 2013 3:03 pm

Hello everyone,

Yeah, I know, one more post about citizenship. You guys must think/say: "Why dont you call Migri?" Well, after reading all the instructions in the site I called them 3 times, and each time I got even more confused than the previous one.

Thing is, I lived for 17 months with the B permit and I have lived for 3 years and 4 months with A permit (family ties, married to a Finn). I come from non EU country...

I know that my B permit will count only half of that time, so 17 months will count as 8 and a half months, alrite?

My question is, those 8 and a half months that I lived with B permit will add only as time I have lived in Finland or it will count as well as a continuous period of residence?

Can I already apply for a citizenship based on the time I have lived here and considering I have YKI 4 ?

Thanks :)

Yes you can if you have Finnish spouse. If not, then I'd wait a bit more before submitting, as afaik you have to have the 5 years done when they start to process the application (4 if Finnish spouse).

Thanks guys!
Yes, I have been married to a Finn for 3 years and a half now and before that I had a B permit for 17 months. I was just wondering, do I count 4 years all together( B permit counted as half + A permit) or 4 years only with A permit? I got very confusing instructions from Migri... one said that I could already apply, another person said that I have to wait to complete 4 years with A permit and another one refused to answer any of my questions because, acording to her, she would answer only those who have already sent their aplications, which was not my case...

If you had a temporary residence permit (B permit) before you obtained a continuous residence permit, half the time you lived in Finland with a temporary residence permit will be counted as residential time. You must have had a continuous residence permit (A permit) for at least one year just before a decision is made on your application. The time you have spent in Finland with a temporary residence permit (B-permit) will only be included in the continuous period of residence.
