Hi!
I am thinking to start a part-time business. I am overwhelmed by the amount of paper work that needs to be done in Finland when starting a business!, but nowhere I have found detailed information about a part-time business. I just wonder, if I am already employed, and getting my salary, and paying my pension and unemployment benefits, do I still need to pay for these insurances and taxes for a part-time business? I doubt I will earn much from the business, I just want to do it to get some extra income by offering my profesional services (so I'd be working by contracts and orders, no need to buy things in advace or have a warehouse or separate working place), but If i need to pay insurances and benefits to myself monthly, I don't think it can be much profitable the business, since there might be times that I don't get any orders.
Any experience in this matter? How to start a part-time business?
Thanks!

Theres thresholds on how much you earn/turnover when the requirements for the different insurances/payments/vat kick in.

Where else have you started up a business? Because I think it is quite simple in Finland compared to some places!CCK wrote:Hi!

There is no such thing as a part-time business. Business is business - it's up to you how many hours you put in per week!but nowhere I have found detailed information about a part-time business.
Yes, except for unemployment benefit which is optional for entrepreneurs.I just wonder, if I am already employed, and getting my salary, and paying my pension and unemployment benefits, do I still need to pay for these insurances and taxes for a part-time business?
What you pay in insurance and tax is a percentage of your earnings. So, if you earn very little, you will pay very little. As far as pension contributions are concerned (eg: YEL) you can opt to pay the minimum amount. But first you need to decide if you start up a toiminimi or a limited company.I doubt I will earn much from the business, I just want to do it to get some extra income by offering my profesional services (so I'd be working by contracts and orders, no need to buy things in advace or have a warehouse or separate working place), but If i need to pay insurances and benefits to myself monthly, I don't think it can be much profitable the business, since there might be times that I don't get any orders.
