speed limits between cities
speed limits between cities
Hi,
I noticed when I was driving on the highway between Helsinki and Tampere that most of the cars are slightly overspeeding. The speed limit is 120 but almost everybody drives at 130-140 and few drive at more. So, do those highways between cities in Finland have speeding cameras or what?

Re: speed limits between cities
20km/h over is the threshold between a fixed fine and a fine related to your income. So 135km/h might be a 70e fine, 145km/h a 4000e fine.
The "few drive at more" you mention above 140 is probably because your are using your car speedometer to measure your speed and some others are using GPS. Speedometers normally read about 5-10% fast (eg speedometer says 140, you are actually doing 130). Use a GPS and you'll get a more accurate figure.

And no, there are not likely many (if any) speed cameras on the actual motorway. There aren't any on the 4/5 between Helsinki (outside ring 3) and Heinola, for sure!

Your title was "between cities"
So just to add that other routes do have cameras. e.g Helsinki - Turkku, Helsinki - Kuovola. They tend not to be on the 110 / 130 parts, more when the limits fall to 70 (junctions etc)

Re: speed limits between cities
Are there any speed cameras on (dual carriageway) motorways in Finland? I have not seen any yet. Ring 3 doesn't count either since it's not a motorway. So would helsinki-turku have any speed cameras?Liam1 wrote:other routes do have cameras. e.g Helsinki - Turkku, Helsinki - Kuovola. There are no 110 and 130 limits.Liam1 wrote:Your title was "between cities"

HI Riku
No I don't recall seeing any on the motorway part - it is as I wrote when the motorway goes down to a normal road for some stretches.
Have a couple of times seen a temporary traffic camera (mouned inside police van) on the motorway proper e.g. on 7 outside Porvoo.
Sorry Upphew - getting my National speed limits mixed up, meant the motorways (is that 100 / 120?)

Re: speed limits between cities
There are lots of permanent speed cameras on all kinds of roads between cities. The Tampere Motorway just doesn't seem to have them. Neither does the road it joins onto to go into Helsinki, Hämeen...väylä.... However it's spelt.
The road to Pori for instance is covered in speed cameras and it's mostly farmland you are driving through. It's not a motorway. I assume it's a 'highway' of sorts.
The speed limits are usually 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120. With 'kid' areas and smaller lane ways being 30. Ocassionally you see 70. Like if you go through Kirkonkylä in Nurmijärvi, the main road is 70 till you hit the middle of town. Whatever you could call a town there LOL.

I can also confirm that there are no speed cameras on the "1" motorway between Ring 3 and where the motorway ends in Turku. It's limit is generally 120 (100 in winter), but occasionally they take advantage of the electronic sign posts and change the speed to 100 through some of the tunnels. Still no cameras, but always the possibility of those vans on the side of the road.riku2 wrote:So would helsinki-turku have any speed cameras?

Hi I want to ask this my wife was driving without licences and the speeding limit surveillance camera caught her. And now it's been three weeks we have not heard anything. What could be the worst case scenario here?

Worst is you both deported or given life in prison, couldn't think of any worse possibility.sniper wrote:Hi I want to ask this my wife was driving without licences and the speeding limit surveillance camera caught her. She was driving without a licence and still speeding? Either she lacks driving skills required to drive a car or she lacks the amount of brain needed to go on the road with a car.
I hope and wish you get an exemplary punishment.
