studies+labour market subsidy

Post by watchman » Wed Sep 18, 2013 12:51 am

Moi moi everyone!

Mita kuuluu? Hope all okay!

I have some few questions for you and I hope I'll find an answer, positive or negative all welcomed
let me start with the facts:

Living in Finland with my Finnish wife, holding a degree in nursing sciences, NOT RECOGNIZED in Finland, studying Finnish.
I have some few questions that are:

1- I am willing to apply for a university degree-polytechnics a bachelor degree to start, I will be probably admitted, supposing that I did, the course I will be taking is in English, an English degree.
I'm I allowed to take the labour market subsidy as an integration assistance? or is it only for people who want to study Finnish? or I'm I only allowed for the study grant and NOT the Labour market subsidy as an integration assistance, i'm wondering if anyone ever had integration assistance or labor market subsidy during their studies at the university.

2- what are the chances of getting a student loan if you have an A continuous residence permit and you have been accepted into an degree in English in one of the universities in Finland?
3 what is this integration assistance as a labor market subsidy? is it only accessible if you are going to study Finnish or do some kind of training?
is it accessible if you already speak Finnish and you decide to have your studies at the university as a part of the integration plan, I'm I then allowed to have access to the integration assistance/labor market subsidy?

Looking forward all of your opinions:!

Kiitos!

As far as I know it goes like this.

Studying, ergo studying a degree. Means you are immediately void for LMS. You get the student grant like every other normal Finn. Just because you are an immigrant doesn't mean that you get special treatment whilst studying. You might be paid extra to sit on your ass and be non-constructive. Or to go through those Finnish courses that are hell. But you won't get that special treatment or the same amount when you actually go to Uni.

However as far as I know you can also get the loan. Or at least you can apply for it. You have to talk to a bank about that after your studies are accepted.

But no, you definitely are not eligible to get LMS/Unemployment/Työttömyys/Kotoutumistuki whilst studying. So hopefully your wife has a decent job to make up for the lack of money that you will be getting.
Otherwise you can actually get off your ass and look for work yourself AND study like everyone else.

Then you will have your studies AND money. Otherwise you're going to have the bare minimum like every other studying Finn. Be happy you get anything, immigrants here who don't have family ties or a relevant permit get nothing.
Also it is my knowledge that doing a degree in English will exempt you from certain things.. not sure what but I've heard from friends in AMK etc. that they weren't able to get such-and-such because their degree is in English. Though I am not sure if this is true or was just down to their ignorance/misunderstanding of the systems.

In short. You will never, under any circumstance get LMS whilst studying officially for any sort of degree. It is for those who are unemployed and looking for work.
As for the classification of payment for doing Finnish studies/training (integration scheme) you will also not get that, and you will be ineligible for the payment or courses whilst you are in university/polytechnics school.

So basically, get used to the very real fact that if you are accepted and take the studies you are going to be broke unless you look for a job. Best to inform your partner of this, though hopefully they already know.
In short. Take the studies and look for work and get off the system.

You can go to the TE keskus and ask if there is a possibility that they will pay the LMS while you study. They have to approve it - there also these special muuntokoulutus for foreign nurses that need a degree... main thing is the Finnish language though. You won't land any other job than the bedpan assistant no matter what you have as a degree if you don't study the language.
