Nordea electron card and paypal registration?

Hello everybody, I have just come to Finland, and will stay here for a long time. This mean I need to link my PayPal with a Visa card here.
However, after I went and tried to connect the card with the account, it said that the card doesn't allow such transaction.
I have read somewhere that I need to have access to my netbank account, but this is he 1st time I have heard of such account.
Anybody got any information about this?

Online banking is the norm these days. Practically no-one — save for pensioners who never taught themselves how to use a computer — uses the everyday banking services in person anymore. The banks themselves have actively tried to stop serving regular customers in any meaningful way in person, reeducating everyone to take up online banking instead. For example, withdrawals or paying bills are prohibitively expensive when done in person at the counter and the branch offices have awkward times for serving their regular customers unless you’re contacting them for the purpose of negotiating a loan, or want to invest in their funds, or seek to get an insurance from them, or something bigger like that.

See here for an overview of Nordea’s online banking service and instructions for obtaining the necessary user ID and access codes. The actual online banking service can be found here.

In order to use your Visa Electron for online payments, you need to specifically enable this functionality in the online banking service and set the daily safety limits for such usage. These settings can be found in your card management options.

If you just arrived here, the chances are they will wait for 3 months before they give the netbanking. Even then the "Electron" is a PITA. What I suggest is you go to say moneybookers and get a prepaid mastercard from them. It works like a "real credit card" on the net, buying tickets etc. and even someone steals it, the only money you lose is whatever the balance is. You can hook it up with your bank account so paying money onto it is easy. I rather use that than a direct access to my bank account.

I have to disagree, i had Nordea electron and now s-bank electron and i have had no problem with online payments.
Of course if you are foreigner who just opened account there could be more restrictions than i have.

Electron did have major problems few years ago but seems it has been changed. I have done 3 purchases from UK, 2 purchases from china and 1 purchase from germany in last 6 moths with electron and withouth any problem. IIRC atleast one wasnt Ebay.

Once you get the online payment thing sorted out, I can confirm that my Nordea Electron works with PayPal. (On the other hand, I had to start using PayPal in the first place because Spotify wouldn't accept my Electron...)

Yes, Nordea Visa Electron. Years ago, it was common knowledge that certain banks' Visa Electron cards worked much better online than other's (Nordea and Sampo used to be good choices, OP used to be a bad one, if I recall correctly). I would've thought that those problems were fixed by now, but no such luck, it seems.

My problem with Spotify was that

a) Spotify claimed that my card wouldn't accept "recurring/ongoing payments".

b) Nordea claimed that Spotify tried to make a card terminal payment (the machines you use to pay at a store) instead of an online payment, and also tried to switch the payment type in the middle of the transaction.

Onkko, do you mean S-Pankki debit card? According to my knowledge they don't have visa electron but only visa debit card. Correct me if I am wrong.

I have S-Debit card and never have had any real problem in shopping online,purchasing air tickets, renting cars in different countries etc , only problem I faced was in some stores in Netherlands where it didn't work.
