I have an appointment in the police center in 1/10 and i want to take the finnish ID social number so I can find a job and take the card for the means of transport. Does anyone know if they will give me the number the same day and if no how long will it take?

Re: ID
The police are not the ones giving you the ID number, the Maistraati does that. But you have to register at the police first and convince them that you can take care of yourself while living here (work, study). If the police doesn't believe you can take care of yourself, they won't register you and you are like any other tourist. Then you will also not get the ID number.

Re: ID
Well, in principle no. But you need to get one and with a work contract you can go to either the maistraatti or tax office - where you need to go in any case and you get one... the police give you an "eu-paper" that works as well, but they want a "reason", also after 3 months working you should get the police paper as the maistraatti won't tick you as domiciled before that so KELA will give you grief.
But the police still doesn't give out the numbers, it gives the EU registration paper you need to get the number. And they wont give the registration unless you have a "reason" like a job...
