I have no personal recollection whatsoever of how the light switches might have worked in the various countries I have visited, but I’m pretty sure no such thing is Finnish invention. Whatever electrical systems or conventions are considered standard in Finland, their logic has probably been originally adopted, wholesale, from another country — most likely the usual suspects which we tend to follow in a short leash when it comes to such things; Sweden and/or Germany.Honest wrote:I'd again say it's not about logical or illogical, it's just that it is different in Finland than how it is mostly done at most of the places. Also, I do not find it at all unlikely that the upper switch position, “closer” to the ceiling (and that way, closer to the light bulb itself, or pointing at it, or facing it), has been deemed more logical for the “ON” position than the “OFF” position, and that might even have been the original reasoning for the choice.
