Finnish farms or kotimainen ruoka

Post by malagasy » Wed Oct 30, 2013 2:34 pm

I am very curious about Finnish farms that produce meat/chicken/eggs/milk from animals/birds fed on natural diet, no corn, no crap, but green pastures etc. In other words not necessarily LUOMU, cause even luomu caws can still eat corn and whatnot (if it is organically produced), but really green and natural stuf, grazing endless hours, looking happy and all those idealistic things. Those that do not do mass production, but rather have permanent clients who drive to the farm and get their healthy food or buy it from farm markets somewhere. Please, do not recommend Kauppahalli (unless you recommend particular sellers) cause most of them have no clue where is the meat from and what did the caws eat
any contacts, links (Finnish is not a problem) are highly appreciated
thanks!
UPD: found it

I'm taking orders for lamb. Delivery end of October or beginning of November 2014.
Outdoor grazing from May through November. We sell direct (Raasepori), all the meat is inspected, butchered and vacuum-packed. We don't deliver and don't have a website.

By the way. It is not true that the sellers in Kauppahalli don't know where their meat comes from. Of course they do. Every animal is tagged and traceable, otherwise it cannot be sold. Maybe they just don't want to tell you.

I think most sheep farmers will have sold out by now. The demand for Finnish lamb is way more than the supply, so lambs are generally sold out before they are even slaughtered (slaughter is usually just before it starts snowing). You might be able to get hogget in the spring but it will have spent the winter indoors.

If you are in the Helsinki area you could join the Slow Food movement. They publish lists of local producers and organise markets.
