People who think they always know more than others and are cleverer than others mostly make very slow progress in learning! And accepting your mistakes (in this case assuming that others were wrong) is not something to be ashamed of, it's something to be proud of. Anyway good luck to the OP.

I don't think they'll say "sorry", but apart from that you got it covered.jkmonto wrote:The worst thing that could happen is that they tell me: sory we can't change the school.
Also remember, if you don't go or quit, thats a "refusal" and they drop you off the benefits. One problem with the courses is there might be people there not there wanting to study but unmotivated and just there to sign off as they have to be there.

Yes it does! I'm about to go to TE this Monday, and I have pretty much questions on my mind about the course. Thanks for answering some. But then, I think since most of the que will take 3 months of waiting, I guess I will enroll in the intensive course in Helsinki while waiting for my sched. It's surprisngly cheap like €45,you might like it. But then it's not as intensive as that arranged in TE, since it's like 10 hours per week. But the whole course is designed to be a level higher for just a month. Which is very cool. And the bad news, it starts on level A1.3, but yours is A1. Have searched ilmonet, finnish course and the Adult schools in cities but there's really no intensive course that is offered less than a hundred. Most are like €200 to 400. Anyway, thanks for the info in the TE.jkmonto wrote:
By the way, and for finishing, she said that if I opted for the option of getting a private lesson to learn Finnish then I could do it if they approve it and if there is at least 20 hours a week. BUT if you start that course lets say now, then you will be taken out of the queue and you lose your right to get into one of the free courses. She was really clear about that.
So as I have less than 20e left for the rest of the month... I'll sit down and wait for my free Finnish classes and expect not to get the worse.
I hope this information helps someone.

Some people are waiting over a year to get into the course. So 3 months is a very short wait.

I'm really sorry for the late reply. Tomorrow is still my language assessment/test and I'm thinking perhaps I will be qued for the A1.3 as I'm done already with A1.2 level. Today I just enrolled in ilmonet.fi for level A1.2- A2.2. Maybe it's really wise if I continue studying for more, so when the TE class is open for me, it's just a review. However, that clearly is like a waste of time.
BTW, I got a question if I opted to get private lessons and is approved by the TE, will the payment be subsidized? It's between €223- 400 you know. And how about the so called meal and travel allowance given to those who will participate in integration program, is it applicable in this situation still?
Re: Professor pick for integration Finnish Course
Okey so just this afternoon I had my 2nd appointment in the TE office where me and the TE officer made my integration plan. He is very lively, friendly and he made me feel at home right away. In fact, we are talking things outside the scope of the appointment. And I like that, because it's easy for me to raise questions. I know most of the things to expect already from my friends and forums, but here's something new to add.
He said it is mandated by law that those immigrants 25 years old below shall have the Finnish intensive course in no more than 3 months from drawing of the integration plan. Since the TE office is just buying courses from private schools, I can choose to take intensive finnish course from any private school so long as I will tell him about it and it has been approved. But the fee for the course is mine and mine alone. tsk tsk tsk
Since I chose the fast phased lesson, my Finnish course will last for only 10months. But when I ask for the slow and moderate phased lessons, he said it's 10 to 11months. Hmp, the duration is really just the same. I thought the difference will be 2 months at least.
It is not possible to choose for the city/ location of the course, because each TE office in every city is under the budget of that specific city.
Absent is okay if there's a valid reason, however, successive 5 absences will automatically cut off the allowance. It will be restored, once valid reason/ proof is provided.
I got my finnish classes since September, 4 times a week, 2:30 hours/ meeting in Kirkkonummi and I reached A1.2 level already and will have another 2 more lessons by January A1.3-A2, however, the TE arranged course for me will start in A1 still. I am advised to drop them once I got an email from him stating that a slot is available for me. I don't know the reason why, perhaps it's because in their standard it's not intensive enough.
He said, my allowance will start in 2 weeks or 1 month of waiting from today.
But anyway, overall I have good experience in the TE office and I got nice TE officer.
