Bike shops Helsinki

Post by Alex3ai » Sun Nov 24, 2013 12:44 pm

Hi!
I'm looking for a decent bike mechanic to fix my old vintage bike, or to upgrade it.
The stores are asking between 150-250 euro which i think is ridiculous considering the bike and the used equipment i bought is worth less.
Does anyone know anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

What do you need done? Do you have any pics of the bike?
I was retrenched recently and now have a bit of extra time on my hands, so i might be able to help.
Although, the quote you were given isn't too high, especially if it is a major service in question. Throw in parts as well and the price could even go higher.

I bought a nice used bike, two years old for 299,tiagra group,18 speed, aero wheels. The old bike needs a major overhaul and I can't afford it.they gave me monthly payments 60 euro for five months so it was a good deal.they have a few more of these 299 bikes with same payment options.
what I would do with the old bike is make it into a single speed or fixed gear.sinkula would probably be cheaper...got any ideas?

Ok, so you have two bikes (at least) and the older one is in need of a service.
You don't have the funds to do it yet instead want to make a conversion out of it.
I'm just trying to understand what it is exactly that you want to do here...
If the older bike is decent but still kind of second fiddle to the new one, why not just strip it down and sell off the parts?
You could actually just concentrate on the new bike and improve it or your riding gear.
Conversions can be done cheaply but you'll have to trawl the forums for parts and do the work yourself.
If you can't put a bike together properly, then you'll have to pay someone else to do it.
Conversion costs can also creep up on you and before you know it, your budget went out the window.
Sorry if i am being captain obvious, i just don't know much about you or your situation.
My advice is, stick with the bike that fits you best and get rid of the other one.

I converted this old Nishiki road frame into a fixed gear bike a while back.
I tried to keep the budget to a modest level and sourced some parts from various bike forums.
New parts included the handlebar/bartape, rims, spokes/nipples, chain, front/rear chainwheels, brake caliper and brake lever.
The wheels were built by the Pyörätohtori and i did everything else.
Total cost i'm not sure about but i'd say it was definitely not under 400e.
I did once convert an old Peugeot to a singlespeed for a whole lot less but cheap and cheery gets old quickly.
It's much nicer riding a bike that feels 'tighter'.

Then i sold the Nishiki frame (MISTAKE!!) cos it was a touch big for me, then i built the Jackson above.
I stopped counting the costs after they went over 1000e... ;)
Then not long afterwards i broke my ankle badly and haven't ridden fixed since then.

I decided to get rid of the old bike.
I will donate it to someone who really needs it.
also i have an old frame, marcello tunturi, no wheels which I'm selling for 20 euro. I will just focus on this bike and the riding gear I need for it.
I m doing this round Europe charity ride starting next march, and for that I'm using Kona Honky Inc 2012, so when I bring it here I will have two bikes. I really don't need more.
However, I'd like to get together if you have time and just talk, seems like you know your bikes and it would be fun to meet a bike enthusiast. Next year I have some ideas on making some dough on fixing bikes, so we'll see if we share the vision.
Hit me on the pm :)
