plz help me understanding the procedure

Post by anil krishna » Thu Nov 28, 2013 10:04 am

hi everyone.
I am new to this forum
I have completed my 12th in 2012
and my interest is in Environmental engineering/science and natural resource like fields.
In India this course is not available so I planed to study in Canada but my visa got rejected twice
Reason for rejection :: the course make no sense
the university gave me admission but the visa officer think that such courses should be opted in masters level and not in bachelors level
in this all process I wasted 1.5 years and now if I apply for Finland it will be 2 years
but I dont mind because its my aim and I cant compromise in it.

my question is I dont know any thing abt finland visa process
till now wat I noticed is the tuition fee is free and the cost of living in finland is high so we need to show sufficient proof of income
1. but in this forum many are talking abt entrance exams (so wat is it abt do all need to give this exam?)
2. and wat interview are all talking abt?
3. wat I think is we go to a university for bachelors but many use words like metropolia and UAS ect wats the difference in it and wat r they?
4. and ppl here in this forum are they international students or the local finnish?
5. is the entrance exam mandatory? (is it for local students or also for international students?)
plz explain wat should I do further.
hope I will get answers for my questions
Thank You.

1: Apply to the school via one of the pathways here: http://studyinfinland.fi/how_to_apply/a ... ons_system. If they think you are a suitable applicant they will contact you to tell of the entrance exam. You can pick four schools, I suggest you do so, as you will have better chances.
2: As you have to apply from abroad, there will be an interview to get to know about you, and your interests in school and careers at the closest Finnish Embassy to you. If you get in, they will notify you and then you can apply for a student residence permit.
3: Metropolia is a University of Applied Sciences ( a Polytechnic) it is a slightly different school then a University. The AMK/UAS (Ammattikorkeakoulu or University of Applied Sciences) tend to be more practical learning by doing whereas Universities are more theoretical in their teaching of knowledge rather then workplace skills.
4: We are everything. i was first an aupair, then a student and now I teach kindergarten. I'm originally from America. People on this forum are from everywhere or even Finnish and are just either interested in Finland themselves or interested in helping others who are.
5: Yes the entrance exam is mandatory. They will choose about 40 students from hundreds of applicants so they have to narrow that number down somehow! One friendly recommendation: If you hope to study in English, you must take an English skills test. I mean this in a advisory way and not to be mean, but I suggest you brush up on your spelling and written English if you hope to get into school in Finland, the level of English here is very high and they expect a lot from applicants.

Good Luck, hope this helped!
