Post by curious1asking » Sun Dec 08, 2013 6:56 pm

Hi,

My girlfriend is unemployed finn and she is getting social support now. We wonder if she moved to live with me, how will it change? I have a salary and pay taxes.

It would be easier to answer a more detailed question (like what is your net income and what kinds of support she gets and what are your hosing expenses), but most likely "toimeentulotuki" paid by the city will be reduced to zero if you are employed full time. With Kela benefits the change is perhaps less radical.

You can call Kela and ask:

http://www.kela.fi/web/en/phone-services

Their English is probably good enough to communicate.

I thought they changed the rules for unemployment?

That an unemployed person's basic income from the government wouldn't be affected by what their partner made?

I am sure I read that somewhere.

Regarding the labor market subsidy ('työmarkkinatuki'), that is true.
