Where to park my car when moving to a new place

Hi,

I am moving to a new place in espoo and the company that owns the building does not have any parking slots available and have already 8 persons in the waiting list for it. So, my question is what should i do now, where should i park my car. I do not use it that often so even if there is some place where i can just keep my car than thats ok too until this situation resolves.

Any ideas, any one. I am planning to keep it in station parking area (espoo or tuomarila). Any opinions ??

I don't live there so no idea exactly about that location but

1- You can try to find some free of charge parking places along the road.

2- In many cities you can get a permit and then you can park your car at paid parking slots which are marked as paid parking but have an additional panel which reads something like "Ei koske P-tunnuksella". This kind of permit in Turku costs 120e/year or 60-70 euros/six months. You can check about Espoo.

Train stations usually have some kind of free 24 hour parking attached to it.
Or rent a private garage.

Well, I am not sure you want to keep your car sitting at a train station for so long. It's safe in Finland, but there is still quite a lot of breaking into cars going on. Especially people who break into cars and use them to drive elsewhere.

I live outside of KEHÄ 3 in a small town of 15,000 and even we are nowadays getting people smashing car windows, breaking into cars etc. Seems to be growing. In my parking lot a car was broken into the other day. And down the street another car had it's windows smashed in.

Can't you park on the street with in few of your home? If there is no blue "timer" you need to use, then you can just leave it in the street. I often see cars in the Helsinki area which have been sitting on the street all winter, under the cover of snow. Especially in places like Haaga. They've not been abandoned. People just haven't used them.

Thanks everyone, I emailed espoo traffic dept or something to ask about this and they told me that i should look for 'Blue P sign' in my area. That means that there i can place my car sort-of forever
Flossy, you are right, but if i do not found any 'P sign' closer to my home than the train station (btw : it is 6 mins walk from my home) then i will park it there. I understand bad things can happen but that should be taken care of with my insurance. But again, I havent had to deal with insurance ever and have heard its not easy to get money out of there pockets so ya maybe its a risk.

by the way if it is says 24 hours under P sign it literary means 24 hours, not 48 or 72. i have seen fines issued to cars parked there longer than 24 hours.

They mark the tyres with chalk and snow helps too...

iirc the correct way to move car is done in a way that someone else could park there. So 2 meters not ok, around the block is ok.
