We have enjoyed our stay in Finland for the past 3 years but are now moving back to the US. We have accumulated an apartment full of things but only want to bring back the necessities .
Is there somewhere that accepts large donations of furniture , clothes , etc? We're giving away as much as possible to friends but there will still be a lot of things leftover. We'll also have a large amount of trash with large items that can't be thrown away in our apartment's bins, is there a company that can come remove this ?
Thank you for any help you can offer

Hi,
This has been talked about in this forum before, but the recycling center (http://www.kierratyskeskus.fi/) is one last option.
They accept books, clothes, etc. If you have furnitures that are resaleable, then they will come to pick them up free of charge.
They accept electric stuff like TVs, stereo, washing machine, etc. They do not pay anything fot the items.
Then there is a sort station to dump unneccesary things (http://www.hsy.fi/jatehuolto/jatteiden_ ... fault.aspx).

Theres also charities like Emmaus and the Salvation Army, but their attitude has been so downright pissy, that I rather throw everything to the yard and burn than call those cretins up. If you got "proper furniture" and bits, theres the guys who deal with "estates", so if you look adverts "ostetaan kuolinpesiä" they deal with the living as well, hough they know you won't be much worth unless you scored a goddamn fugly lamp off the flea market and it was invented by some drunk pisspot-maker people pay thousands for...
