Bad tempered Finns
Went to Oulu in my car today making a survey of bus stops (OK, a perverted hobby but not illegal) and on the way home thought I'd run to the airport as not familiar with that airport / airport area, and might be using it more and more in the future. Leaving the airport I turned right along a small road just curious to see where it went, after 400m it narrowed and I reversed into a yard witht he intention of then moving forwards (of course) - a text message arrived to my phone and I thought that as I'm stopped (between reverse and 1st) I'll quickly look at the text.
Next thing there's this fat irate Finnish slob (male I assessed) shouting at me "Why are you parking here?!!!!!!" I says "I'm not parking, I'm just turning round" and he keeps going "Get Moving, Get Out of My Yard!" (all in Finnish of course). And then he goes to scare me by looking at my registration plate like he's gonna report me to the Fuzz (the Helsinki boss of which is now in prison so can hardly say they are all 'above board').
Sunday morning 1020am. Yes, very friendly and polite.
So I reply "Yep, just off onto the road right now"
He shouts all red-faced: "And stay on the road!!!"
I says: "And you stay in your yard, What An Idiot You Are!"
(I had an axe in my car so's he's lucky he didn't end up with 2 mouths)
What's this all about, a bit touchy about having my back wheels for a few moments on his yard (though technically I wasn't touching his yard as my wheels were on top of snow, eh? Can only assume the mental hospitals / loony bins are full up. Actually, I have noticed that people from the Oulu area are more aggressive than from the Helsinki area. Is this because Oulu folk want to be City People but are too poor to move to the real city (ie. Helsinki)?!

In Texas he would've defended his castle and shot you.
He's the boss of the drug unit of the Helsinki police, and he has only been charged at this point, not in prison.the Helsinki boss of which is now in prison so can hardly say they are all 'above board'

Re: Bad tempered Finns
More likely that people who don't want to live elbow to elbow like to live everywhere but Helsinki. Thus the 400m driveway. And still some moron ends up in his yardTullynessle Turnip wrote:Is this because Oulu folk want to be City People but are too poor to move to the real city (ie. Helsinki)?!

-er.... how did his yard become 400 metres? I'd say 2m max into his yard.

Re: Bad tempered Finns
I bet he totally missed the private road sign.
People get really pissy if you come into their personal area, especially if you've been on their space for 400m already.

Re: Bad tempered Finns
More likely it was just a plain old public road that doesn't see much use by anyone else. Or private road that has been subsided by the state and thus can be used by anyone. Anyway the dude most likely thinks it as semiprivate ans acts like it is all his.kharnynb wrote:I bet he totally missed the private road sign.

My goodness, just how bad is your understanding of English??!! Normal public road 400m, and 2m into his yard.
Anyway, just some red-faced git, probably still pissed from a Saturday binge at his stock of Pohjanmaan Viina & Lidl lager.
He may find his postbox one day filled with the contents of our cat's tray. Watch this space

Re: Bad tempered Finns
You find people like that everywhere.
Re: Bad tempered Finns
So OP invaded privacy of finn and had no valid reason to be in his yard. I would be angry.
You had no right to be there and you had no excuse to be there. He had every right to kick you out.
And your "axe", he probably had more than one axe and rifle/shotgun, you are lucky one.
