Oulu weather/snow forecast early 2014

Hi Everyone,

I am asking specifically people living in Oulu or someone knowing the weather conditions in that region this time of year.

Having lived in Finland for a couple years in 1990, I was expecting snow and freezing conditions in Oulu right now but am aware of unusual weather in Finland during recent years. I am trying to decide a time of year to travel there for permanent living, preferring not to carry a lot of heavy sub-zero and snow suitable clothing on my flight or to buy them as soon I arrive there.

Looking at some SPAM MESSAGE in Oulu I do not see much in the way of snow, some wet and maybe ice on the side of some roads.
This got me thinking I do not need to wait until May or June to travel there in order to avoid freezing temperatures.

Temperatures here in winter get to 13C at the lowest and I have clothing already suitable for weather like that.

I was examining some 2013 weather charts and was wanting to know if people in Oulu thought this time of year the weather was similar to 12 months ago?

Also saw a 30 day weather forecast, which you cannot really trust I think. It calculated consistent -10C temperatures were expected by end of January and on wards into March? Tell me that is not likely to happen...

Any input appreciated.

I would be surprised if it didn't happen.
Although the weather is quite unpredictable right now there will be some stiff freezing this winter. If you want to avoid buying winter clothes, wait till the end of April to be sure.

If I made on mistake in looking the statistics last winter the coldest month in Oulu was March. You can not tell now what the weather will be even in late January.

On the other hand, if you have a hat so you don't freeze your ears and can put number of layers of clothing on you (even if thinner ones) you can probably survive a day in the city shopping.

I would bet Oulu seeing -30 than -10. And being by the sea it will be windy.

Winter mode is on right now and by the time you arrive here, if it's towards March, winter will be at its end. So, wear whatever clothes are required for that moment. You can buy winter clothes here at discount After February.

At the moment, it's in the plus, so most snow have melted but this won't remain so after a week or so. Since weather has been crazy, like this August, when we had warmest whether all over europe, what the temperature's gonna be on February or March is difficult to predict. But usually, Oulu has plenty of snow till the end of March.

No. In fact,if i recall correctly, last year one of the coldest days were in December.

this is freaking Oulu, -10c in January or February is called warm weather.

talking about weather, if it's above -10, I go out to throw trash away with only t-shirts & shorts on! feels good.
