I have bought myself a new digibox which allows me to record what is on the TV but the instructions are only in Finnish and Swedish .
Does anyone use this device or something similar?
I've worked out a few of the functions but I don't quite understand the purpose of the USB slot on the front. I've read that it can be used to update the software but does it do anything else? Can I watch my own movies i.e avi, mpeg? or actually load anything on the digibox hard drive.
Any info would be great.
Thanks

Download the Swedish manual here. You can copy and paste the text, or selected parts of it, into Google Translate. It should give better results when translating from Swedish to English than when translating from Finnish to English.mpjacko wrote:I have bought myself a new digibox which allows me to record what is on the TV but the instructions are only in Finnish and Swedish .

The Finnish manual only mentions a) firmware updates via USB, b) that there is a built-in “USB [file] browser” (of some definition), and that c) the USB connector can be used for (an unspecified type of) “file transfer”.mpjacko wrote:but I don't quite understand the purpose of the USB slot on the front. The table of technical specifications on the distributor’s website mentions firmware updates and viewing JPEG photos.
Chances are it might do other formats as well but the manual is almost useless in describing any of the USB functionality. They don’t even mention how to navigate the file browser... if there actually is one.
Even if the Chinese/Korean OEM factory which made that box would normally support copying recordings onto a USB key (that is, in some other version of the same device/firmware), it is not likely any DVB-C recorder aimed at Finnish market would do that. The local cable companies — feeling the pressure from international content providers — try to enforce their “Cable Ready” DRM specification, which basically says the devices should comply to a specific set of rules and restrictions, and the viewer should not be able to copy unencrypted content out of the device — especially not if it is anything that involves HD channels, or Conax scrambled content. (Or pairing a Conax viewing card to the device. They do not allow pairing a viewing card to a device that is not on their list of accepted devices. Only the basic “must carry” FTA channels — plus a few extras — are available on cable in the clear in an unencrypted format and without requiring a viewing card.)
