Buying laptop online
Buying laptop online
I am considering to buy a laptop online from http://www.webhallen.com/fi-fi/. It seems that the company is based in Stockholm and sales online to finland. Has anyone experience with this company? how about tax issues when one buys online from outside of finland such items.
thanks in advance

Re: Buying laptop online
Vertaa.fi similar to hintaseuranta suggests the cheapest price from webhallen. Do you think there are extra import costs other than shipping?roger_roger wrote:whats wrong with http://gigantti.fi, http://verkkokauppa.com, http://netanttila.com ???gude wrote:I am considering to buy a laptop online from http://www.webhallen.com/fi-fi/. Sweden is part of the EU Customs Union:gude wrote:Anyone know if customs duty fee is charged?? [when ordering from Webhallen, a Swedish company]

“No customs are levied on goods travelling within the customs union”.
There are special territories which are governed by EU countries but do not belong to the Union, or the Customs Union, or the common VAT area, though (such as the Åland Islands or the Channel Islands):

Re: Buying laptop online
You can check on their website to see if they charge Finnish VAT rates. If that company does substantial business with Finland then they are supposed to charge Finnish VAT (the same way that Amazon does on books sent to Finland). But apart from regular VAT, there is no extra duty within the EU.
Be careful with the exchange rates though. If they invoice you in Euros they might cheat on the exchange rate. I always check Amazon's exchange rate (especially on dearer items) as sometimes it is cheaper to order in the local currency and get your bank to do the conversion.

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies !
They charge in euros directly, so i dont have to worry about exchange rates but I doubt if the VAT is included. I couldn't find out if they include it on their webiste http://www.webhallen.com/fi-fi/laitteis ... t740m-win8
Happend to find some more info from finnish customs titled ORDERING FROM ABROAD. might help someone http://www.tulli.fi/en/finnish_customs/ ... ersons.pdf
Books and Computers are customs duty free even when purchased from outside of the EU. only VAT applies ! (source above link from tulli.fi)
Best,

Prices marketed to (the EU) consumers are VAT inclusive by the law. This has been made obligatory in the EU by the Directive 98/6/EC and its national implementations in each member country:gude wrote:but I doubt if the VAT is included.
“For the purposes of this Directive:
(a) selling price shall mean the final price for a unit of the product, or a given quantity of the product, including VAT and all other taxes;
(b) unit price shall mean the final price, including VAT and all other taxes, for one kilogramme, one litre, one metre, one square metre or one cubic metre of the product or a different single unit of quantity which is widely and customarily used in the Member State concerned in the marketing of specific products;”
“1. The selling price and the unit price must be unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible.”
Also here:
“The selling price and the unit price must be indicated in an unambiguous, easily identifiable and clearly legible manner for all products offered by traders to consumers ("unambiguous" meaning the final price including VAT and all other taxes).”
But as for distance sales within the EU, you may be charged either the VAT rate applicable to the seller’s country, or your local VAT rate, depending on how much business the seller does to your country. Nonetheless, you should see the correct VAT rate in the final price on the order confirmation page before actually paying, so you can always cancel the order if it is not to your liking.
If they market to consumers, they’re required to have VAT-inclusive pricing on their consumer-facing site by the EU law... so you should not even need to check. But just to make sure, they do explicitly mention that their prices are VAT-inclusive here:gude wrote:I couldn't find out if they include it on their webiste http://www.webhallen.com/fi-fi/laitteis ... t740m-win8
“Kaikki hinnat sisältävät alv:n.” (“All prices are VAT-inclusive”)

If seller sells more that 50k to finland they have to pay finnish VAT.roger_roger wrote:I would certainly avoide that Finnish VAT rate. While ordering electronics from UK I get charged only 20% UK VAT. From Germany only 23%, so why pay extra looking for Finnish VAT while ordering goods from other EU countries?Rosamunda wrote:You can check on their website to see if they charge Finnish VAT rates

I think you've missed the point (already stated here) that the VAT rate you (as someone living in finland pays when ordering from another EU country) depends on how many other finnish customers the shop has. lots of other finnish customers means the sales the shop has with finland is over a threshold and they must charge finnish VAT. Order from a place that has few finnish customers and you pay the shop's home country's VAT rate.roger_roger wrote:While ordering electronics from UK I get charged only 20% UK VAT. You have paid 20% UK VAT because the shop didn't sell a lot of things to finland. If you order electronics from amazon uk you will pay finnish VAT because amazon sell a lot of things to finnish customers.
