Employers: How they really think about the health care?

Post by Samer2010 » Thu Jan 09, 2014 12:13 pm

Hi Forum,

I saw this (http://yle.fi/uutiset/tiesitko_taman__t ... sa/7018779), and it got me thinking, since the employers are aware about each and every visit that their employees pay to medical centers, Do you think that would make employers label their employees especially concerning the cost matters?

Example:
Employee-1 likes to go to medical centers too often for any symptoms and for regular check ups and tests => It means, The bill is too high and the employer covers that.
Employee-2 goes to medical centers rarely and only in very serious matters => It means, The bill is too low and the employer covers that.

Cost wise, Employee-1 is costing his/her employer a fortune, On the other hand, Employee-2 is costing his/her employer way less. So, Somewhat they label or red-flag (Employee-1) and maybe get rid of him if possible.

Based on your personal experience and knowledge, Do you think employers look at things this way especially in this tough economic situation? Or, Is that employers don't really care because probably all these health care insurances are paid as a subscription-service every year and it doesn't matter if the employee visited a doctor once or 1000 times ?

Most employers look to implement the (0-120hrs in the 3 weeks contract) and strangle (with a smile) the hack employee.

Thats why Europe is a sucky bowl of slop in terms of toughness.
Tough love can cost you big time, its better to be the silent smiling strangler with a 5cent treat in your hand. They also say"never tell your employee the truth", that's going to get you in trouble, and "everyone should agree to a contract that doesn't offer them anything, its legal".

Few thoughts: The legal required employer offered health care is really only for the preventive care for occupational health problems. If the employer for example offers the chance to see a non-specialist doctor for for any other issues they do that voluntarily (with a certain level of subsidy from the state). Seeing a doctor like that is in the end fairly cheap while employees not showing up to work because the are sick or waiting at the local health care center are expensive.

The flow of information from the doctor to employer I think works with some kind of "need to know" principle. So that with bigger organizations your immediate boss would not even know you visited a doctor while in small company he'd even know the tests that were made.
