Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
To the point. On admissions.fi you can apply for English university courses now.
This is no problem. For those studies there are a maximum of 4 choices, allowing you to pick in a range from what you want to get into the most, and then the least etc.
Now that's all very well and good and seems fair enough. But the problem is, every single one of the courses that have entrance exams from 24th - 25th of April.
Now... if I am allowed to choose 4 different study places/degree combinations etc.
How in the @#$% am I supposed to be in 4 places at once for the entrance exams when it is time to do them?
So for example. If I apply one Physiotherapy degree, then International Business, then Information Technology and then Hotel Entrepreneurship. All of which are different (but all of which have their exams on the same dates)
How on earth can I be in 4 different towns at the same time to do 4 different tests. If there are 2 days, the maximum amount of tests I can do is 2. 1 per day and that is with a lot of insane travelling and rushing around. (Depending on distances)
So apart from the other obvious ridiculousness that is applying for universities in this country (like how little time they give you to move to the place of your studies between the time that you know that you got in, to the time that your studies start) which doesn't give you enough time to apply for HOAS/PSOAS etc/etc. Can someone please explain this for me... how I am to make sense of this. Is there a way around these exam day problems or is it just me thinking that this is an issue and there is actually one teleportation or time-turner device that will be afforded to me for the ability to make it to all of these tests in time.
Otherwise I want to smack the person who decided to have them all on the same day with a frozen solid kahen kilon siika
Excuse my lousy jokes but this is one of the most frustrating things I have had to rationalise in months and I would really appreciate some insight.
P.S. Why on earth does there seem to be no teaching degrees like last time I could apply, or are they just hidden under different names... I haven't had so much time to check.

No. I have never even been to the latter one.
I'm inquiring based into the fact of how I am supposed to physically be able to sit exams for all 4 choices that I make in what I wish to study...

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
You can only study only one, so _you_ must make a choice, if the exams happen to be on same day.justaguy wrote:No. I have never even been to the latter one.

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
But this is ridiculous. What's the point of giving us 4 options when everything even the cultural degrees have their exams all on the same day? It makes absolutely no sense. To give people 4 options and things to study for, if they can only be there physically for 2 exams. I would understand if you were absolutely adamant that you wanted to get into an I.T. degree course and then you did 1 test and they sent your application to 4 different universities or something. But having to be there physically for each test, that is on the same day is just physically impossible.
Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
Your example options are all rather different from each other, but many of the degree programs do co-operate and the same test in basic math, sciences and logic can be used to apply to a whole lot engineering subjects (though you still need to choose the four in right order), and similarly the same test is used for several business degrees. If the truly diffenret tests are at the same time, then you have to make a choice now.

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
Also, from https://www.admissions.fi/vierashaku/am ... 7738;58997
Many polytechnics/UAS co-operate in the entrance examinations. This means that an entrance examination completed at one polytechnic/UAS is accepted by another and if you are invited to the entrance examation by your first preference, your second option will also accept the result. The applicant will only be invited to the entrance examinations by his/her highest option in the same co-operating programme.
Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
I think you are ridiculous and confused. The four options mainly for selecting 4 different unis and/or select relevant programs. Some schools offer one extra exam date, I think that is very generous of them. Applying to programs, which are completely different, shows you have absolutely no idea what you want to do as a profession, thus you are less likely to complete any program if you are accepted. So, pick what you like most.
For your second issue, you can always look for a temporary place before moving into HOAS. Nevertheless, I think you HOAS will prioritize you as a first year student (in case you are admitted).

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
FYI, the 4 I listed were EXAMPLES of if someone was to pick 4 entirely different subjects, because I wanted to outline the fact that even though they were all entirely different subjects from one another they STILL have the same exam dates.lovelyjet wrote:I think you are ridiculous and confused. It would make more sense to have all of the engineering exams on the same date, cultural degree exams on another, and hospitality ones on another jne
So no need to go full retard and get personal 'lovelyjet'

The fact of the matter is, that unless you seem to be applying for only 1 subject and pick universities that all share their exam results with each other. Then it is physically impossible to sit 4 different entrance exams (even for the same subjects).
EDIT: After scanning through the lists, I can see that out of the 2 subjects I want to study (I only really want to study one, but the second is a backup choice) that 3 places out of 4 accept multiples of my results. So I can physically sit 2 exam tests to qualify for all 4 options. I am still going to have to break the news to at least 1 or 2 friends of mine who are applying for more than 2 subjects.
Thanks for the clarification guys, though I still think it madness to hold everything on only 2 days.

Thats a load of crap for many, tell my wife that who is now on her second masters that eventually she wont be interested in (real world not student)!Applying to programs, which are completely different, shows you have absolutely no idea what you want to do as a profession

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
Most people choose different schools with related subjects. Often one test fits all (like Rip told you).Zeptinune wrote: FYI, the 4 I listed were EXAMPLES of if someone was to pick 4 entirely different subjects, because I wanted to outline the fact that even though they were all entirely different subjects from one another they STILL have the same exam dates.
It makes no sense to rearrange an nationwide test schedule for a few people who picked incompatible options.
Besides, even if you could sit in completely different exams in a short period, the chance that you master all the different fields is small. (and maybe because of the study load fail all)
So better pick your strong points.
And if you're a genius that can, you only have to pick one because you'll probably succeed.
Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
Apologize for being rude (unintentionally, cramming gmat may have affected my mood
), I'm not trying to win anything. I just want to point out that it is not "ridiculous" for schools to arrange exam dates in such way. Demanding schools to arrange many entrance exam dates, and also to arrange time in between for the OP to prepare is... strange. Moreover, it's more reasonable to select just one (or maybe two) program and prepare for it carefully. Even if OP manages to pass 4 exams, he still has to choose only one program as far as I know. I think the only reason to take 4 exams is to spread the risks. It might work and OP will get into some program he doesn't like, then he is very likely to abandon it the next year for another program. I completed my study in a UAS a while ago, the number of my classmates dropped by more than half in the first year because they wanted to study something else but had no other choice.

Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
What lovelyjet says. It makes sense for having flexibility in case you change your mind mid-term, and not for taking all the courses at the same time.
Re: Ridiculous exam dates for university courses...
The only teaching diplomas in English that I know of in the UAS, are postgrad diplomas in Vocational Teacher Education (60 ects). AS far as I know nearly all the UAS are offering them now, but I don't think they are part of the degree admissions system. You apply direct to the UAS. eg:justaguy wrote:

You need a degree and three years work experience in your field to apply. They are not degree programmes.
