47 inch Sony or LG Smart 3D LED TV

Post by mahwish » Thu Jan 16, 2014 8:12 pm

In my previous post, I was planning to import the TV but it is not cost effective. I don't want to buy Phillips because it has some known problems of picture tube etc.
Can anyone suggest me good Sony/LG 47 inch 3D Smart LED TV if you know some sale or promotion going on if I can avail my student card discount?
Even 50 inch Sony/LG 3D Smart LED TV can be considered in the price range.
My budget is between €700-€1000(max limit is €1000). Is free home delivery available or should I pay extra for delivery? I don't mind Samsung but my first preferences are Sony and LG.
Any suggestions or if you know a local/online deal on TV?Please share it with me.
A bundle of thanks!!!

If your information about Philips is from the age of “picture tubes”, I’m afraid it might be a tad outdated. (And quite irrelevant, too, if you’re not in the market for a cathode-ray tube TV... ;)

Then again, Philips has been planning to escape the consumer electronics market. Their TV manufacturing has been outsourced to a joint venture with the Chinese TPV Technology and they were already about to sell their entire consumer electronics division to Funai but that deal apparently fell through. I guess they’re looking for a new buyer now.

check these two for prices, even though owned by the same company the prices and offers can be different

http://www.gigantti.fi/cms/s-NpGsGQVnDu ... tarjoukset
http://www.markantalo.fi/cms/s-Z56sGQVp ... nnuskoodit

generally you get what you pay for. the 46" Sony KDL46W905 gets reviewed as one of the best LCD TV's but that's out of your budget. There are plenty of online sites which review TV's and it's not really a finland specific thing. I would compare prices here with elsewhere (eg amazon.uk, amazon.de) since then you'd get some idea if the model is overpriced here and cheap elsewhere (and so a cheap model suffering over pricing in finland) or is similar price here to elsewhere (and so get a true idea of the value of it).

student card discount - I doubt it from those discount stores. When I worked for a siemens owned company their employee "staff discount" prices for bosch/siemens products were often more expensive than gigantti.

46" Sony KDL46W905 is €1800 on Euronics.fi, way above my budget though I would love to buy it. There should be some TV in the range of €1000. The gigantti link takes me to their main page, not to a particular TV model.

The links are there to show which shops have cheap prices and so avoid paying 1800e for a TV from euronics when gigantti have it for 1650e. That though is an inflated price since the price in the UK for that model is much less, so I expect it for fall. My Samsung 46" on the other hand was cheaper at gigantti than in the UK so I considered that a sensible price.
There are plenty of sites that review TV's (cnet, hdtvtest.co.uk) and I think you'll get plenty of info from there on which model to buy. The finland forum is hardly the place to get opinions on TV's which are sold globally.
What is relevant to finland is the pricing, since the small market and behaviour of some importers alters the pricing levels of some models. The same is true of cars - Ford is quite expensive in Finland compared to other makes, but in the UK Ford is at the cheaper end of the scale. As a result there are few Ford cars on the road in Finland and people view the make quite differently to the UK where the streets are full of them because people consider them cheap with correspondingly lower expectations.

Is there a reason you don't want Samsung? Have a look at verkkokauppa - they usually have some good deals.
But what shall it profit a people if they satisfy all material desires, but leave for their children nothing, only a wasteland.

I hope they do better now, but some years back the lag was so bad that I just couldn't use parent's tv.

I think Sony is overpriced, LG is usually more affordable but not sure about quality (their phones are not durable). My experience with samsung tv in recent years has been great. And yeah, buying Phillips tv is a bad decision at the moment, imo, I would buy their irons though.

If you a very quick Musta Porssi have Sony KDL47W805 47" 3D LED - DVB-T2/C/S2 - XR400 - NFC on sale at €995 but only in a couple of shops so maybe no free delivery.
I bought one just before xmas - one of best TV's for PS3 gaming & some reviews say not much diff to 905.
