hi, guys!
So I haven't been on this forum for too long... But I do have some questions and I'd appreciate the help. Long story short, I want to move Finland. Everything about it intrigues me. I'd like to move soon, but I can imagine it'd be difficult seeing as I'm only 18, just graduated high school, don't have any real skills, and cannot speak the Finnish language. Despite all the handicaps though, I am determined. I have some questions though and I'd be grateful if they were answered.
1. is it difficult to find a job? even if it's some mediocre job, any sort of income helps.
2. How much of the language would I have to know if I want to go to a university there or get a job? Are there any classes taught in English or designed to help foreign students?
3. is there any government assistance and how do you know if you're eligible for it?
4. what is the monthly cost of living there? food, electricity, water, rent... that sort of thing.
5. Would it be difficult to move there permanently seeing as I'm not a European Citizen?
6. What would I have to do to become a citizen?
These are just some off the top of my head. Any input would be wonderful such as how life is over there compared to the U.S. or any advice as well. I know it won't be easy and it probably won't be soon but I desperately want to make it happen.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Questions about moving?
Re: Questions about moving?
Those questions have been asked and answered many times on this forum. A bit of reading would help.Nyxeleneris wrote:hi, guys!

But to give you a summary:
1- without Finnish and without special skills? very, very difficult.
2- to study in Finnish? near fluent. But there are some courses in English too.
3- if you need financial assistance you're not welcome (refusal of residence permit)
4- € 700,-/months and then you'll eat pasta and canned tuna. (if you get in subsidized students housing that is)
5- based on your information? yes.

1. 18yo will only have very menial jobs anyway. Problem with those is that you need to work with Finns as customers or bosses. Guess which language they prefer to use?Nyxeleneris wrote:hi, guys!

2. Doing masters or studying in UAS you might get by with English. Studying in Finnish... you won't pass the exams.
3. Yes. You are eligible for it if you don't come here to study.
4. Check http://www.migri.fi/moving_to_finland_t ... equirement
5. No. Get a degree here, get a job here, keep the job for couple of years. You really should read migri.fi

Canned tuna is expensive today, been few years. If you want "meat"/e/kg go lidl and buy "oven sausage" 85c/400g or "meatball" 79c/350g. (not 100% sure, near so few cents off for max)
Anyway go lidl, cheapest if you dont count random -30% but even those can be more expensive.

Re: Questions about moving?
The thing is, you need a "reason" to move to get a RP. Work, family or studies. Now as the first two will get giggles, lets go for the 3rd. There are bachelor degrees in the polytechnics in English, for the entry requirements see www.admissions.fi - to get a job choose something useful like engineering or nursing, not anything retarded like international business... Languageswise the "multilingual management assistant" in Haaga-Helia kicks ass... You will need to show you have some 7000+ euros +health insurance to get a student RP, but thats the way to get your foot in the door.
