Name on Apartment Door and Mail Delivery
Hey,
I live in an apartment complex where the mail is delivered through a slot in the door. Currently my name isn't on the apartment door, or on the board near the building's entrance that lists the apartment numbers and their tenants.
Would this affect mail delivery?

It won't affect the mail delivery, as long as the post office knows your address then you will get your post. I lived in an apartment for 4 years that had the wrong name on the door and got my post fine.

I'm in the same situation. What often happens is that the letters come with a sticker saying that if such person doesn't live there to return the letter to Posti.

One can't be really sure it does not have effect on the likelihood your mail gets delivered to wrong address, though most of the times it is delivered to the address written on the envelope.NatskuLove wrote:It won't affect the mail delivery, as long as the post office knows your address then you will get your post. I have got mail delivered to my home for persons that used to live there. I have got it delivered it for persons that never lived there and I recall at least one time I got it for a person that was living on the same street and had a similar name, so presumably at least occasionally the name does have an effect.
I'd contact the house manager (isännöistsijä) and ask for the names to be updated. In the meanwhile you'll probably get your mail delivered OK.

Received my first letter today, did came with a 'return if addressee does not reside at this address' and doesn't seem to have been delayed at all. Thanks for the replies.

But the name on the door shouldn't affect that at all. Its not like the postman is not going to deliver the letter if it doesn't match the name on the door, as long as its the right address I'm pretty sure they're going to deliver it.Rip wrote:One can't be really sure it does not have effect on the likelihood your mail gets delivered to wrong address, though most of the times it is delivered to the address written on the envelope.NatskuLove wrote:It won't affect the mail delivery, as long as the post office knows your address then you will get your post. I think too that is the theory, but once (not that long time ago) I got that letter meant for somebody else living on the same street and had a name that was quite close to the one on my door, and I thought it wasn't probably by chance. The final sorting I believe is still done by human beings trying to do their work quickly.NatskuLove wrote: But the name on the door shouldn't affect that at all. I had an opposite experience. My next door neighbor's mail was delivered to me, and hardly our names could ever be similar...

Weird but I suppose mistakes must happen sometimes.Rip wrote:I think too that is the theory, but once (not that long time ago) I got that letter meant for somebody else living on the same street and had a name that was quite close to the one on my door, and I thought it wasn't probably by chance. Re: Name on Apartment Door and Mail Delivery
Name is irrelevant.
Number of apartment is relevant.
In case of mistaken number but correct name, postman most likely assumes number to have been wrong. (takes a whole lot of "minor" errors turn Virtanen into Yli-Aliheikkilä than remember that it was 5 instead of 4)
