Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
Has anyone thought about how the water from the tap makes your skin dry, thins your hair,fizzy/tingly feeling on the skin and other mysterious grumbling from family members towards the water quality.
I spent 2 straight years in Vantaa, i often go to kangasala(love the water there), the first thing i noticed thanks to family members is that it doesn't do that tingly feeling on the skin.
I have been on holidays for a month(outside of Finland) and to the amazement of my loved ones my hair has noticeably thickened and growing, in fact we have noticed this happen to many friends and family that have come and gone and come again.I am not a spring chicken so even i have been amazed at the change within the month.
Im sick of looking at people with thin crappy hair in Finland!
What the hell is up with the water you hairless non confrontational locals?
How can i get my water tested?

Its the chlorine/fluor they treat it with. "Rainwater" or from a lake has all the natural pollutants and bacteria.
Meanwhile, in the UK my hair needs just a morning shower on a Monday to stand up for a week plastered with the lime...

Re: Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
isn't this down to whether the water is hard or soft? Finland has soft water (hence dishwashers don't need salt added). Places like the UK have hard water. Kettles fur up, soap doesn't lather.I don't think the hardness differs that much in finland, it's similarly soft all over the country.
Re: Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
My tap water has a high iron content. I'm just thankful it hasn't turned my hair orange.

For that you can probably "thank" the pipes in your house, not the water that is supplied there.Bavarian wrote:My tap water has a high iron content. I'm just thankful it hasn't turned my hair orange.

I have to put cream on my face every single day ... I hate it! This is from my first day in Finland! After I take a shower, 5 min after the skin on my face starts to get dry, ears, and head. I have been traveling to many countries and this is just here in Finland ... if I go to cottage and swim in the lake or see ... nothing, my skin is perfect! If I take a shower no matter where (Tampere, Porvo, Vantaa, Espoo, Helsinki, Levi, Rovaniemi, Jyväskylä ...) the skind get's dry and this is just on my face, ears and head ... I don't know what stuff they put in the water, I will guess clor among other poisons stuff? However I plan to build a house in the country side and then dig a whole in the ground and take water from there to drink, shower and stuff! I will not connect to any @#$% pipe that comes from I don't know where with I don't know what in it!

I live in the middle of nowhere; I don't have municipal water.Rip wrote:For that you can probably "thank" the pipes in your house, not the water that is supplied there.Bavarian wrote:My tap water has a high iron content. I'm just thankful it hasn't turned my hair orange.
Re: Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
I think you should read about "soft water" and "hard water". The tap water in finland is soft and it's different to hard water found in many other countries because of what soft water doesn't have in it. As for the sea being different .. you do realize that sea water has salt in it so is nothing like what comes out of a tap?Alex.Sm wrote:in Finland! As for water from your own well compared to municipal water. if the municipal water comes out of the ground (and not a lake) then your own well water and the municipal water will be of similar hardness (which is determined by the kinds of rocks underground).
There is chlorine in the tap water in finland but nothing like the amount you'd get in the UK, USA or any other industrialized country.
Re: Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
Well to be brutally honest, i am in Russia now and the water can burn your eye balls, and of course if you let the water run long enough you can have your very own rock collection.
BUT still my hair grows and my skin is dry but i never use moisturizer like i need to in Finland.
I dont think its chlorine or fluoride or anything of that nature,i know because i have lived in countries that have these in correct quantities, it has to be something that causes a secondary situation.

Re: Helsinki/Vantaa tap water
My point was that I never had any issues with "natural" waters like lakes, rivers, sea ... in Finland or abroad, except the tap water that means they put some stuff in it like chlorine and other things. I haven't done a research what they put in the tap water, and I do know about "soft" and "hard" water ... but even without research it ain't hard to figure it out that they put some stuff in the water that obviously is not good for skin ... otherwise if the water will be natural, either from sea (salted), from a fresh mountain river, or even from your own hole in the backyard ... it doesn't harm the skin.riku2 wrote:I think you should read about "soft water" and "hard water". OK (though if it is older house it might still be pipes instead of water in the well)Bavarian wrote:I live in the middle of nowhere; I don't have municipal water.Rip wrote:For that you can probably "thank" the pipes in your house, not the water that is supplied there.Bavarian wrote:My tap water has a high iron content.
