No, the trains long distance are only cheap now..... They will go back up in prices once the "non travelling" period is over.
In February is the annual Ski Holiday for schools. Watch, the train fare prices will go back up to normal then. Actually it's no longer called Ski Holiday. I think they call it Winter Holiday now. A week off school.
Yeah it's going to be a huge shock to the system coming here from Australia. But you are coming at a good time. You have time to get use to the weather. Winter will be ending in Oz and Summer will be ending here. So the temperatures could possibly be around the same roughly. Depending on if we have a good summer or not. Your body will have time to adjust to the darkness as it sets in, compared to turning up here in the darkness from an Aussie summer. I am about the go the opposite direction. Luckily it's not so dark anymore here. But still.... I hope it's not +40 when I turn up at home. I will melt.
But really, the world isn't that big a place anymore. All the same telly shows are here. Even Masterchef Australia is shown on the telly here. And some dumb Aussie show set out in the country side with some oh so beautiful model like actresses running farms. I've seen it on YLE 2, the Government channel. But I can't remember the name of it and found it rather pathetic. And that stupid Bondi Beach show, which makes me hate that beach even more. Come on Manly is a nicer beach and all the other beaches on the northern side of the Sydney are much nicer LOL. But no, they have to use concrete jungle nasty Bondi Beach LOL. They use to show The Flying Doctors here, on that YLE 2. That was cool to see those old episodes LOL.
Sure there are cultural differences. But you are coming to study. I think young adults everywhere in the world who go to study somewhere are just about the same. Same partying, same "no money", same everything.
Customer Service is a bit of a downer here compared to Australia. But in some ways it's nicer because you don't get pounced on the second you walk into the store "hi, how are you today? What can I do for you today?" LOL.
And Finns like to stare. Really. So if you look even remotely out of the norm, be prepared. Actually, they'll stare even if you look like a Finn. So don't think it's that you've got food on your face or something LOL. Just accept it's something they do. And maybe stare back at them LOL.
Since you're a foreigner coming here to study, probably you'll end up just making friends with the other foreigners in your group. Sometimes it can be a little difficult to break into making friends with Finns. But again, you're obviously young. The younger Finns, especially ones who have travelled and spent time abroad are more open and friendly these days.
And if you want to learn Finnish, please learn to say "näin" properly. Say it wrong and well.... you're saying "f**k" as in doing it LOL. And yes, "pussi" is really a bag. Don't know if you're a Finn, have Finnish heritage or even know any Finnish. But there you go. "Pussi" gets most people the first time they hear it
