Part time jobs availability

Post by Tareks » Sun Jan 19, 2014 1:14 pm

Greetings,
First of all, I know very well that it's difficult for an international student to find a part time job especially when he's a non-finnish speaker. So let's put that aside.
Now, where do you guys think part time jobs are mostly available?
Please pick four cities and rank them if that's not too much to ask  :

-Helsinki -Kouvola -Rauma
-Kokkola -Lahti -Kuopio
-Valkeakoski -Rovaniemi -Seinäjoki
-Jyväskylä -Mikkeli -Tampere
-Kajaani -Oulu -Turku
-Joensuu -Lappeenranta -Vasaa

Thank you in advance, I'd very much appreciate your help folks.

My advice:

Helsinki,
then - start learning Finnish NOW!

And also, think over your career opportunities after graduating in BBA here.

In itself, polytechnic BBA does not give much. It will ust take your time away from searching for job and self-studying.

At least I have heard this from other students and experiences this very well myself (exception maybe is Metropolia, according my friend's words).

My advice also: take schools easy, and set up your mind on needed subjects. They will give you a lot of useless things... try to prioritize. Also, if you want to stay in the country, Finnish is everything

Thanks a lot for your response.
When you say that it takes your time away from searching for job then how would someone expect to find a job without a degree?

I mean that job-searching = a lot of time, networking and so on. A normal job (like cleaning) + studies is pretty tiresome too. But you will get by, if you are motivated.
In any case, I am just expressing my opinions) My opinion in general that to work in business you do not need any degree. You need to meet 2-3 really good specialists and learn from them and from work experience. Good math basis would be ok too....
But the world needs degrees from us (to my mind a waste of resources).

I any case, it is "philosophy")

I think better try than not try! Especially that maybe next year there will not be such an opportunity if they introduce tuition fees

Don't feel restrained to expose your philosophy, what you say is very plausible. I dropped out of college in 2012 because I believed, and I still believe, that college education is a waste of time because everything, and I mean everything, is available for free on the Internet, books are our last resorts if we want an education. So this is all cultural engineering imposed on us, an agreed upon system that is deeply rooted in civilizations, so rooted that you can't turn your back on it without the greatest obstacles especially when you come from a third world country, so now I am back in the "game" because many opportunities escaped my grasp due to college education. So it's not "education" per se that I seek, it's opportunities.

Sure self study might be even better than college, but how the employer could know your knowledge without testing you or seeing results from someone who has tested you (eg. ocllege)?

Normally it is achieved by looking at the person's life achievments, by personal discussions etc. And if you are saying the role of school is to "test", why not create just some testing institutions? It is cheaper than having a school.

BTW, at least in my polytechnic (in IB) testing is extremely inadequate. It does not reflect anything, because there is no good system of testing! If they created some thorough systematic way of: - giving the material : - testing students' knowledge - it would be way better. It is very easy, and normally schools have study programms. I do not know why here everything is done on such a free subjective basis.

So, again, with some polytechnics self-studies is very important. And it is not guaranteed that you will recieve a reward in form of a grade.

BTW, a lot of businessmen do not have any schools behind, at least they did not bother to graduate.

This is "theory". The reality is that people are not open minded and stick to stereotypes. It is also risky to hire people without formal education. So... As we are not business geniuses and come from the 3rd world, we need a "pass" = degree.
