Hi,
I am going to apply for International Business and I 'd like to have your opinions on Arcada UAS.
Arcada UAS
Re: Arcada UAS
Depends on what you want. I am not happy with it at all. But I am a demanding person. If you like just to hang out... it is not a bad place. You also can get a low grade pretty easily. In other words, depends on why you are going to school.
Generally, I can not really say "bad" things about this place, as I guess schools in Finland are extremely serious about their marketing, and I really am scared to express any kind of negative opinions spoiling any kind of a"brand".
But my general advice:
- go to schools where exams are more difficult and marketing is not so agressive (agressive marketing means the school is not doing very well and is desperate to attract students + difficult exams show their approach to studies, easy to pass = easy to study)
- use the 4 options. You always have other options. I would choose Metropolia as 1st, and the rest of schools I have no idea what are like (except Arcada)
I would recommend Metropolia.
Or you can go to Arcada, but a lot of things you will have to learn yourself. If you are already good in Finance and accounting, you can go there. But if you have no clue on these subjects, you will have to study them yourselves. I think they do not have a strong teaching basis for these subjects, I have not noticed any kind of a system there.
So, you either are not serious and getting things easily, or - a lot of self-studying.
Actually, this is just my own personal opinion. Like any other person I might be mistaken)
Really. just pick 4 schools! It is worthwhile to come here I guess (if there is no other opportunity to stydy in Europe or States or Canada) anyways. Schools are just a part of the learning process, and local diplomas are valued.
PS as far as I know Arcada has other programmes. In nursing, for example, they do care for students. Nursing in Arcada is much better than business. But IB is very neglectful. There is a lot of marketing there, but I would not trust well-dressed students who market their schools in pretty videos) Trust nerds, they know better!

Re: Arcada UAS
Thanks for the reply
I studied Finance and Accounting on MOOCS so I have a strong basic knowledge on these subjects, my first choice is Metropolia by the way, the reason I chose Arcada as my second option is because I want to stay in the Helsinki area for part time jobs opportunities.
I love nature photography and I hope that my studies there will be of help when I start an Art Gallery business either in finland or at home, I prefer to stay in finland though.
Thanks a lot

Arcada gives you a chance to network in the "ankdammen" - Hanken dropouts go there

Well, if you already have some knowledge in business, then you can go to any polytechnic. Just in this case take things easy) Take what is useful, take easy what seems silly to you...
In the long run schools in Finland are a great opportunity for a move in life. You grow anyways, even if some schools can be a bit lame academically. You will learn a lot of things anyways. Maybe "streetwise" things mainly)
If you want to stay in Finland or find jobs related to your studies, you need to be really good in netwrorking, and very motivated. I know some people who have managed... but they really worked hard on that.
There is also logistics programme in Metropolia, that is in Helsinki area.... My friend who studies there is very happy about it....
PS
And I also am fond of arts.... I wish you good luck! If you have some practical questions, you can send me a private message. Like about what kind of exams they have or maybe smth else.
Actually if i had 10 more years of life... I would choose e.g. media engineering or IT. These things can help you with artistic projects more than business studies. To my mind, only a humble opinion, ofc.

Re: Arcada UAS
Thank you, that was very helpful.
I'd stick with business since I have specific intentions in the future. Nature photography would be something I do for fun, with no specific plans, I know I mentioned the Art Gallery business but the truth is I don't care much about that as long as I am free to travel and shoot beautiful places, where I live I can't travel freely, there's always the visa !"#¤%.
Anyway, thanks a lot.
