car registration process

Post by eirinn » Thu Feb 06, 2014 2:08 pm

Ok, today I got the papers from the Tulli that state I have to pay 0 for the car taxes (big hurrah for the old cars!). Now I've tried to understand what to do next, but I have only clues. I guess I must register my car to Trafi, am I right?

Take the car and papers to AKE for a registration road test, assuming it passes they will issue you the registration documents and plates. Maybe someone else will tell you the cost, it´s been a while since I did it.

You go to a "katsastus" place. Most if not all do a "maahantulokatsastus". You need to have the CoC paper from your original country or then pay a gazillion to prove your car is EU-compatible. And then all kinds of other items.

Thanx! So, next stop: katsastus! Since my car comes from another EU country, I think all its previous documents should do the trick :)

Not sure that is true if it is a standard car from one of the major manufacturers,
Mine came from Switzerland and they were able to check the VIN number on the computer and that was it, no need for a CoC certificate

Everything went fine. We did it only with the registration documents from my home-country :)

That is about to end. If someone finds proper English news, then start a new thread please.
