Hello all,
My name is Nick and I live in The Netherlands. 24 years old and working in an restaurant. I have no other education then that. 9 years of experience tho.
One year ago I have met an Finnish girl, she lived in my hometown. We started to see each other and began an relationship. After 9 months I decided to quit it, my stupidiest mistake ever. She went back to her hometown and is moving to Helsinki in an week time.
I miss her terribly and want her back. There is only one demand, she does not comr back to Holland. I need to go there and I am up for that, quite open mindend and I want to try. But I also want to be realistic. What are my chances? Do I have any rights? How is restaurantwork in Helsinki? Oh and, I dont speak any Finnish. Ofc i can move in with her so I have got a place.
I am waiting for your response.
Sincerely,
Nick

Re: From Holland to Finland
Assuming you are a dutch citizen (Or other EU ) then you have the right to move to and work in Finland.
As for finding work, have a look at past threads, plenty of information on here

Coming to Finland would be your second stupidest mistake.nnickos wrote:Hello all,

- no education, no special skills, no Finnish language ==> no job, no future.
(your restaurant experience count for nothing here)
Without Finnish skills, you have to compete with all the other foreigners in the same position, often with better papers and experiences than you.
Although you're allowed to come, without a job or other regular income you will be a tourist (no social security, no medical, no bonus cards, no bank account and so on)
So what are your chances? Realistically; close to zero.
- You want her back, but does she wants you back?
For the moment it might look that way, but when you're sitting at home doing nothing and eating away her income, she will get more and more advice from her friends to move on.
And you'll get more frustrated and your mood will become negative. You broke up with her already once. Now nothing stops her from breaking up with you.
You might think this is a negative picture, but we have seen it happen many times.

Seriously, move on. This happened three months ago, right? That seems like forever when you're 24, but if you get out there and meet some more exchange students you'll forget about her in no time. If you do go, though, prepare for serious difficulties finding work. Could I, whose only Dutch is 'de volgende halte is luik', get restaurant work in Holland?
