Mixed indoor public swimming pools in Helsinki/Espoo area?

Post by ljl16 » Fri Feb 21, 2014 12:46 pm

Hi,

I want to go with a friend swimming, any public pools that allow mixed genders at the same time? Thanks.

I tried googling but only found the yrjonkatu uimahalli (separate times for each gender, besides naked :)) or some open pools only open during summer.

Cheers,

Swimming halls in Helsinki, managed by the city itself: http://www.hel.fi/hki/Liv/en/Sports+fac ... ming+halls

Swimming halls in Helsinki, managed by a separate company: http://www.urheiluhallit.fi/eng/home.html (click on the names on the top banner: Kallio, Kontula...)

Swimming halls in Espoo: http://www.espoo.fi/en-US/Culture_and_s ... ming_halls

And yes, mixed gender is the default. Yrjönkatu is the main exception, due to the naked swimming tradition there.

I really don't understand your question, all pools allow mixed gender swimming, unless you mean you want to swim naked. What they don't allow is mixed saunas, because you must take your shorts off before you get in there. In some places they allow mixed sessions in the steam room, because, for some reasons, you are not allow to take your shorts off in there.

Swimming pools are mixed but not shower/change rooms. They should also be mixed,, don't really understand what huge difference/wildness will it create if there are not those one/two small pieces of clothes. May be it's just because it is not culturally accepted as yet. But the amount of clothes deemed necessary has been decreasing with time, so free-naked-mixing should be a norm after some time

I don't think the open nakedness will increase. But if someone needs private shower/sauna/change, then there might be those too to rent. At least Tuusula has: "Hallissa on myös saunalliset ryhmäpukuhuoneet, joita voi tarvittaessa vuokrata yksityiskäyttöön."
