Eligible for Kela card or something else?
Eligible for Kela card or something else?
Hi,
My wife is moving with me to Finland, I will join a Engineering firm here. But for her i see no suitable job (as non eu and no finnish language skill). Can she get kela card ? I heard she can get something around 800 euro per month if went to language school.
Can anybody give more information on it ?

It's not mandatory for a Kela card.GmoDelft wrote:it seems my wife is eligible for kela, but is it mandatory to go language school ?
Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
It all seems to be a rip-off of the Finnish taxpayer - no wonder the Euroskeptics are doing so well!!
Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?

1. visit MOL and register as job seeker , goto kela for kela coverage
2. After decision from Kela, fill form for kela unemployment money.

Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
Yeah but why should we pay for a wife? If she didn't come to a job why should we pay unemployment - you could have taken care of all of that before moving to Finland. To harrys : I am also a taxpayer
For all we know she wasn't working where you came from either (was it an EU country?). So if that would be the case - it's REALLY a rip-off.
Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
So is your wife genuinely seeking work or are you trying to get a better deal for your tax buck?
If the former I think that this is fine - as you say you are a tax payer and the Finnish state has not needed to educate you / your wife, so it all evens out. If the latter I wouldn't shout this from the rooftops when you are here, because the reaction from locals could be hostile- In my experience, Finns are quite an envious nation, especially with respect to money and as most pay high taxes they may not appreciate hearing how others appear to get a better deal.

Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
I'm all for a just welfare state and going all out to help the truly disadvantaged -and certainly support the NHS type system - basically am left wing.
But i sense here a situation where someone is taking advantage of the 'rules' as written - I see now they are not even from a EU country. It is not clear to me why the 'rules' are paying unemployment to a wife - on the other hand many are weaseling payments to families when they haven't even come to Finland.
Truly there needs to be a lot of reform and re-thinking on this idea of entitlements. Unfortunately it is giving a lot of fuel to right-wing ideas where we may end up losing a lot of the welfare society many of us would like to have - and end up with income distribution getting further distorted.
Resources are limited - and maybe even more so these days - so I think it is more than sensible to question a system of throwing money around willy nilly.
If someone from country X wants to move - and bring certain skills - fine - but on what basis should a family be supported - and certainly one should think about giving them unemployment benefits. If someone wants to move a whole family, one should negotiate with the prospective employer as to whether the salary will be high enough to support dependents.

Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
There are minimum income rules for the RP for non EU immigrants. So salary to low, no RP.If someone from country X wants to move - and bring certain skills - fine - but on what basis should a family be supported - and certainly one should think about giving them unemployment benefits. Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
RP - Riot Points?

And relation to possible unemployment payments for wives, 18+ living at home children, etc. - ?

The same rules as for everybody else.harryc wrote: And relation to possible unemployment payments for wives, 18+ living at home children, etc. - ?
Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
So rules same for Finnish citizens, EU country citizens and 'wherever' citizens?
If so - unbelievable!

Re: Eligible for Kela card or something else?
My thoughts concern those non-Finns coming - especially from non Eu - and getting all kinds of benefits - and very often via phony means
If a non-Finn wife or husband is joining a Finnish spouse and they are looking for unemployment benefits - they should have to show previous employment where they are from.
-----
One person paying taxes btw is hardly a plus situation when everything added up - actual cash allowances to wives, children, 18+ unemployment is already a losing propositiion - but then add all the things society provides - health, education, roads, security, etc.
