white spots on floor..what to do
white spots on floor..what to do
Hi,
Recently, some white spots have been started appearing on my floor. There is no physical damage and the floor looks clean but these white spots look strange. We have been regularly cleaning the floor and we keep the floor clean and dry always.
Can someone suggest what should I do. Should I call my housing company about this? Should I go to the company and talk to someone who understands english well? Has someone faced this issue before? Two months ago, A repairman came to fix a small issue in our doorbell. I showed this to him. He could not speak english very well but what I understood from him was that the floor quality was not good and this could be the reason
Some recommendations will be appreciated as I do not want to get into any trouble with company later on
Regards
Arif

Re: white spots on floor..what to do
If there is no physical damage then I would assume chemical damage.

Re: white spots on floor..what to do
We haven't used any chemicals and it has appeared at random places in living room. We only use the floor cleaning liquid, vacum cleaner and mop for cleaning. The white spots were small earlier but it has spread a bit more now. If it was because of chemicals, it should have stayed at one place only and at a fixed areaUpphew wrote:If there is no physical damage then I would assume chemical damage.

Sneeze after orange juice = acid, work at construction and get some plaster to shoes = base. Imo both could do that kind of damage, although I also suspect that they should mark the surface physically too.Arif Shah wrote:We haven't used any chemicals and it has appeared at random places in living room. Re: white spots on floor..what to do
There is absolutely not even a scratch...just the whitish color change and is increasing. I am an IT guy and try to stay away from places like construction sites etc and we all put our shoes near the door. The color changes are at the places where we don't eat at allUpphew wrote:Sneeze after orange juice = acid, work at construction and get some plaster to shoes = base. Re: white spots on floor..what to do
I don't recognize this exact problem, but chemical problems in the glue or sub-flooring can create color changes on the surface of such floors. Usually the discolored areas are at least several cm. But if they are growing and are not scuffs, it is most likely defective material or a chemical problem underneath.
The housing company will probably blame you unless it has happened in other apartments or you have a statement from an outside expert. One way to get such a statement is to talk to an installer about possibly replacing the floor. But that could be hard to do unless you know someone with good Finnish.

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.

But what reason could they possibly have to blame me. Does this not come under normal wear and tear? We keep the house dry and clean and something like this is not even in our control. How could a chemical change underneath the floor be our fault?
Re: white spots on floor..what to do
by the way, is it covered under home insurance?
