Really need your advise
Good evening,
After reading the forum this is my first post. I will try and keep it short informing you of my situation and the dilemma I am currently facing. Currently I am working as an IT support engineer in the UK and my fiancee is in Helsinki working as a fly attendant. My fiancee was born in Finland but at the age of 17 relocated to Spain. She has recently returned to Helsinki (September) and is working for an aviation company. In December my fiancee broke the news that we are expecting a baby and I am seriously considering of relocating.
My question is, for me to be eligible to work in Finland do I need to provide to the police station that I have been living with my fiancee for 2 years or the fact that we are expecting a baby is enough? Another problem is that my fiancee has not been in Helsinki for 6 months so cannot rent a home as of yet but next month (March). Taking all this into consideration are there any possibilities that I can become eligible and work in Helsinki? I am not familiar with the Finnish language but speak fluently English and German.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks,
George

If you're an EU citizen then you can live and work in Finland no questions asked, and no need to marry or even give any reasons. When entering Finland simply inform that you wish to stay at the police station. Just ask them what you need to do.
If you are not an EU citizen, the easiest thing you can do is marry. She's already your fiancee, and you're now expecting a kid. Tie the knot on what seems like will be a long-term relationship. Otherwise it's a huge shirt-storm with residence permits/visas etc.
You need to be more specific when asking such questions. No one can give you any advice at all if you don't state your nationality for pete's sake...

Eu citizen registration instructions: http://www.poliisi.fi/poliisi/home.nsf/ ... endocument
If you're not EU citizen, maybe the registration of a family member of a EU citizen could be applied (as you fiancee only moved back here recently -but you'd be probably need to be married for that too), but the "get married, apply for the residence permit (for non-EU citizens) based on that" -route seems to be most straightforward. (look: divorce is fairly easy and fast to get, while it's usually only the most unfortunate cases where where your children are not be present in you funeral. In general I do not see why not to get married in a situation like this. Prenuptial agreement can be made.)

Thank you justaguy and Rip for your replies. I left out the most important information. I am British so as justaguy advised will go to the police station and register for a right of residence. Kiitos paljon

If you have job lined up, no problems. Without it you'll face this: "information on means of support is required"georgegalan wrote:Thank you justaguy and Rip for your replies. People in general would be a good deal better off if they'd realize sooner that many of the best things in life result from a habit of going off topic.Rip wrote:

As he persisted, I was obliged to tootle him gently at first and then, seeing no improvement, to trumpet him vigorously with my horn.
Really need your advise
Hello!
I came to Finland as a student but then i have a problem with my student visa, which i cannot renew it again and i was asked to leave the country.
Now, i am third year student which i'm going go graduate in the spring about four months left, July or August, plus i have a Finnish woman that is pregnant now for six month
and the pregnancy certificate has been established by the midwife. I would like to ask if possible to revert my deportation decision by the police immigration as i'm expecting a baby soon?
The baby will be born in beginning of July or end of June. I have been working and paying my tax without any criminal offence or record, I also got my C-license to drive truck and now i have to do some courses before September to make the
truck license more valid and i can use it as my profession. I want to know if any assistant could be rendered based on my baby coming in the next three months?
thanks and expecting reply soon.

Re: Really need your advise
Even if your relation with a Finnish woman and a baby might be a reason to grant you a residence permit, I don't think they will reverse the deportation decision.adeks wrote:Hello!

When your student visa renewal was denied you lost your right to remain in Finland.
The relation/baby is a new situation which requires a new application process. And that normally should start in your homeland.
And besides, not fulfilling the conditions for your student visa and then suddenly coming up with a relation and a baby looks like a scam.
Re: Really need your advise
Are you living the mother of your future child? It seems you're rather late with your questions. The earlier decisions could have been appealed (you don't mention if you did that) and of course you could have applied for RP on new grounds.
As such if there is a deportation order, I don not see why it could not be enforced. Residence permit applications maybe considered also when you're outside this country.

You don't have or never had had a residence permit entitling you work full time.I have been working and paying my tax

Adek,
You can apply as a dependent/spouse of a Finnish national, through an in country application.
However what went wrong with your initial visa ?
If you need a confidential advice please write to me at juristfinland@gmail.com or ring me 0466215128
