Hotel Housekeeper Experience

Post by harumi » Sun Apr 20, 2014 12:26 pm

Hi everyone,

I am going to start working as a hotel housekeeper in Helsinki soon. However I have never worked as a housekeeper before. Could anyone tell a bit about your experience as a hotel housekeeper in Finland please? I would appreciate any inputs. Thank you so much! :D

Thanks you very much for your nice words Maurice. I have never worked in Finland before so I'm a bit nervous. Moreover, my Finnish is not the best so a bit worry about that too. Based on your experience, did you have to use Finnish a lot when working as a hotel housekeeper?

It's a tough job. You don't usually need Finnish as most likely the other housekeepers aren't Finns. By the way, anyone knows the minimum salary for this sort of work, trainee/permanent? My friend has a contract with an employer but it doesn't state the salary there.

we spoke English, most of my colleagues were foreigners, my boss was Finnish but spoke English to us, most of the hotel customers were foreigners so English was necessary. it was a tough job but ok, it included changing the sheets, cleaning rooms, filling the minibar, smiling at the guest etc. I think you will have fun, don't worry.

Watch your back of your doing lots of beds and bending. Also, knowing who is in the team and who to report to is equally important. My husband got pushed around quite a bit when he was doing this in a work and travel experience - Europe and NZ alike. He's kinda soft and sweet you see.
