9th grade / upper secondary international boarding school

Post by lovelyjet » Thu Apr 24, 2014 7:07 am

My cousin is wanting to move from the US to Finland to study. She doesn't have accompanying parents or guardians. Is there any international boarding school in Helsinki area that she can apply to? Is ish a boarding school?

Does she already have a residence permit or is she intended to stay less than 3 months?

There are some schools who offer boarding, but for this age group I would guess it's mostly private religious schools, and there are really not many of them either. One for instance here: http://www.skyk.fi/
ISH is not a boarding school.

Anyway, as far as I know you cannot get a residence permit on basis of this. I would suggest she waits until she is in High School and come as an exchange student. Then she can live with a host family and much better integrate into the Finnish daily life.

Thank you all for the replies. It seems that I interpreted it wrong, my cousin is coming with her mother. The mother is going to participate in a Phd program. My cousin is going to complete 9th grade this June, and she wants to get in an IB program next academic year. Since the application period has passed, only Ressun said that she could be accepted as an "extra student". Anyone know if this kind of "extra student" is different from regular student?
