Traffic ticket related question

Post by ellyavis » Tue Apr 29, 2014 12:01 pm

Hi,

I have a question regarding traffic tickets in Finland. Is it possible to receive two traffic tickets for the same area (for wrong parking) from two different companies in Finland (Helsinki)? Apparently there were about two days in between, we never received the first, and after having paid the second, got a mail about not having paid the first ticket. They were from two different companies.

Many thanks in advance!

Are sure it is a question of the same event? You did not park your car twice to two different (wrong) spots?
If not - is it easy to you to go and check which parking company was monitoring the area in question?

Hi,

It is about the same spot. I called the parking company and they will check it out. Thanks for the suggestion! I just thought it would be easy to find out what the general policy is here about two different companies supervising the same place.

I'm sure there was (at most) one relevant sign by one parking company that said something about restrictions to parking.

The second one might be from a collection company. For small amounts collection companies usually add around 5 eur. So check that possibility first
What do you want from me?????

Its not a"traffic ticket", its a parking fine.

To make this clear to the OP: the money you have to pay is not something imposed by the authorities. It comes from the contract between you and the parking monitoring company that you accept by driving the area (the contract must be clearly visible on the posts). The supreme court ruled a while back that such contracts are valid. The constitutional committee in the parliament did not agree but since disputing the payments happen through the courts, I would not risk it. The English text in Q-Park's signs use the term penalty charge. The Finnish text directly translates more to something like monitoring fee.

The constitutional committee in the parliament did not agree
Opinions vary, but (and I think it is fair to say, that this is the opinion of the court) one could also say they did not decide on the same issue, precisely because it not a traffic ticket or parking traffic ticket issued by local authority (and the same rules do not apply to these private fees.).

The probably best way to contest it would have been to OP to state that he wasn't driving the car - but it sounds like he kind of like admitted doing that already.
