Apply for Permanent Residence?

Post by frnsh » Thu May 08, 2014 12:20 am

Hey guys
I was wondering about one thing. For example you got married to a Fin and you got your permit type A (continuous) and applied for extension after 1 year so it would apply for next 4 years. 3 years after (after totally staying in Finland for 4 years under A residence) you divorce but you still have your A permit for another 1 year before you need documents for the next extension application. Can you still apply for Permanent?
Thanks

If the grounds on which the continuous permit was issued (in your case marriage) no longer exist at the time you apply for a permanent residence then you cannot be granted the permit. To stay in Finland after your current permit expires then you need to find a reason (work, study, marriage), otherwise be prepared to leave.
thanks :)
does the other reason have to have A type? cause studies would get B. and in that case, the A already has had its 4 years already. so would the permanent be still possible?

If you apply for permanent permit you MUST have currently valid reasons why you could be given an "A" permit.

(Can somebody else give a definite answer on the question "does it matter if the reason for "A" permit has changed?")

Thanks for the answers :)
any one knows this matter specifically when applying for permanent and if the reasons for A have to still be there while applying?

Migri FAQ says change of permit A reason is not a problem as long as your A status is uninterrupted.

Of course you have to get a positive decision on your first application for the new A reason from Migri first - normal queue times and same criteria as for any person applying for a first permit.

Yes, the law is quite clear about that.
