Attracted and make friend with a Finnish guy

Post by Minttu girl » Mon May 05, 2014 4:56 pm

Hi everyone,
I'm a foreign girl working in a supermarket. Recently, I was attracted by a typical (maybe) Finnish guy repairing that supermarket building. I would like to make friend with him but I'm also afraid of disturbing his ''personal space''. How could I approach him? We also look at together and say ''Moi'' that's it! :? Should I ask his name and go to bar on weekend or...? By the way, I'm a shy girl. One more thing is that flirting at work is not a nice thing, right? Could anyone give me advices?

Just ask if hes got plans for the weekend. Just make sure he does't drop off the ladder...

:D well, I hit the trolley to his ladder one time while he was on there #absolute facepalm. I could imagine that how dangerous it was and I promise not to do it again, at least with him. :lightbulb:

Be straight forward and ask him: "Lähdeks paneen?"
That will solve 50% of the problems during those initial steps of courtship.

:) Thanks, it sounds promising, by the way what is that phrase in english? My Finnish speaking language should be more improved.

I'd worry less about his personal space. If he is interested at all in a foreigner, he is bound to live with non-Finnish behavior anyway. If he is held off by foreign flirting, of all things, then he is a hopeless case anyway ;) I'd give him the best "foreign kitty wants to play" smile, and ask if he has the time for a beer when your shift ends. Weekends are best planned over a beer IMO. And flirting at work is A Good Thing. Pretty sure half the western world would have died out without it. Not sure your manager agrees though, so be careful not to make too many mistakes ;)

In that case, perhaps better to skip the "phrase".

How did you manage to get a job in a supermarket in Finland with such a poor Finnish?

Thank Macora's opinions. My most kitty smile was sent then immediately, my boss looked at me not nicely :beamer: . By the way, be patient! :)

Hi Honest, I have to say this is the most lucky thing I received when I live here. This placement is like a big gift from somewhere I don't know  :D I just try to learn Finnish and apply day by day.

It all sounds so complicated. I would have hated being a foreign girl interested in a Finnish guy
What do you want from me?????

"lähdeks paneen" == "would you like to @#$%" == "shall we go and @#$%" == "@#$% me please"
Last is probably closest translation.

Just knew it is a phrase worth knowing, seeing the source :D Funny that I had the impression I may better not ask my teacher in class ;) Thanks both, Oo, and O :)
