It is better than nothing and gives certain perspective to children to understand that language diversity exists in the society. If they go further to lukio it a solid ground to build upon, if not- they will still be able to say how much a customer shall pay at a filling station in Swedish.

Who said anything about 1970 s in relation to Ålands? Certainly not me.. I obviously referred to a more than a hundred year old question of Ålands.

So what exactly is the compromise from the Swedish side?
foca wrote: They chose to work with Finns , learn their language, even fight wars together (instead of immigrating to Sweden to sit out the war) . Is it not enough of a compromise?
Rip wrote:I thought you were talking about Swedes in Sweden, but anyway, doing work like everybody else (even participating in war when there is one) is no compromise, anymore not going around and committing arsons.
Well , the fact is that they had a choice and they chose the hard reality of war against relative safety of neutral Sweden . If you ask me , It is a very commendable compromise, on their side. On comparison , Baltic germans chose to flee from the Baltic countries in 1939 prior to the Soviet invasion.
