Personal loan

Post by rayoflight » Tue May 13, 2014 4:20 pm

We (me and my wife) bank with danske bank. We have our mortgage that we got last year and credit cards along with of course the current account. Recently I applied for a personal loan and I was told that apart from a high percent credit card type loan, I'm not eligible for a low interest regular personal loan (for example hsbc in uk has a 5-6% loan for upto 15k GBP). Their argument is that the "Finnish rules" prevent non-secure loans. Is this true or BS. Our household income is roughly 74k before tax. If untrue maybe I should change my bank.

From Danske's webpages it looks like the only loan you can get without any collateral (upto EUR 10k) is their "Consumer Loan" (käyttölaina).

The rate on that is 3mth euribor + 6%, 8% or 12% depending on your customer level with them. Plus some other charges. You have to have your salary go to your Danske account.

Nordea have a FlexiCredit which is maybe similar, rate is euribor + 6-8% depending your client level.

OP seem to have "Joustoluotto" and "Täsmäluotto" neither of which need collateral.

Of course they will always ask you why want to take the loan. If they think you have enough loan already or dont have sufficient income to pay it back then either the margin is going to be high or they will refuse the loan.

BTW I think there was something about needing to have been 2 years in Finland to get those unsecured loans, but that I am not sure about.

Hi, thanks a lot for your reply. We already have that käyttölaina. But we were after a better rate loan. I will check with other banks.
