Applying for a working permit in Finland

Post by PredatoR » Tue May 13, 2014 3:52 pm

Hello guys,

I studied in Helsinki for almost 2 years in the past as an exchange student. No I have come here to visit my girlfriend and to study Finnish at summer university for 2 months. At that time I have received a job offer from Finland.

Right now I have a touristic visa and I am not a citizen of EU. So shortly may I apply for a working permit inside Finland when I have a touristic visa? Maybe my past resident permit as a student and trainee may make it possible?

Regards

That is sad. I am with my girlfriend almost 7 years but we never lived together continuously 2 years. I arrive for 1-2 months, then leave, etc. and 7 years have passed like that. So if it depends only that section 49, then I can't apply here although I had (maybe still) social security number and resident permit before.

Visa is for visiting, Residence Permit for residing.

That would be seen not good from my side. To work inside EU borders I need to take advantage of a marriage. I honestly just would like to work because I got a good job offer and lets see what will be the result. After a work permit, I can marry 8)

you can already be seen as taking advantage of a relationship to get work your work permit. It all depends how you want to see things

I would start to work in Finland 6-7 years earlier if I wanted to take an advantage. I just come here to visit her and recently one company called me for an interview and then they offered me a job. It is just a coincidence. I never intended to live in Finland continuously till the end of my life or lets say 5-10 years. Just I would like to work 2 maybe 3 years and get a good background and reference.

By the way, migri says that I can apply for a RP here in Finland as well although I have tourist visa. Therefore I will try my chance.

And besides, I am sure you and your girlfriend have seven years' worth of proof that you've been dating, even if you never lived together (plane ticket receipts for a start).
it does solve everything but what I heard that when you apply for family tie RP, it takes minimum 6 months or sometimes more. A company would give me up if they need to wait such a long time.

Did you had the illusion a RP based on work would be faster?
Marriage is more or less a done deal (unless there is a suspicious age gap and you are from a critical country). A RP-work need extra checking (contract, EU work pool, ...) If time really is an issue, better start talking with the boss and see how patient he is.
And if he doesn't want to wait and has other options, your application might very well be denied for that same reason (enough alternatives for him).

The average processing time for work is faster:

In 2013 the spouse of a Finnish citizen was done in about 100 days and a regular worker in 60 days. I do agree neither is going to happen in the immediate future.
